English Translation of "副監督"
This is a rather rare position in the Detective Conan movies; however, there seem to be two individual translations regarding it on the wiki: for Movie 7 Crossroad in the Ancient Capital it is noted as "Sub director" and whilst for Movie 21 The Crimson Love Letter being "Co-director" or "Assistant director". I looked up some relative translations regarding this Japanese term, and it turns out that Assistant director is the most widely accepted one (Wiktionary - 副監督). Notwithstanding that, I am not convinced, or better yet, do not second this manner of notation. We already had quite a considerable number of positions that utilised the word "assistant":
- Assistant director (監督補 )
- Assistant animation director (作画監督補佐 )
- Assistant episode director (演出助手 )
- Storyboard assistant (絵コンテ協力 )
I personally think that it is quite crucial to differentiate "監督補" with "副監督" even though they could have been analogous to each other in terms of the scope of work. Regarding Co-director, it is quite far-fetched with the original meaning as well, evidently, it implicates more like two personnel sharing equal responsibilities upon a movie production.
Also, I would definitely not put Assistant director since the word "assistant" has already been used for most positions like "助手" and "補佐". To distinguish these different positions, I will go for Sub director.
