Biography
After working in the OVA Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still (ジャイアントロボ 地球が静止する日), Kobun Shizuno began to serve as a 3DCG director. After turning freelance, he mainly participated in those animation works produced by the studio Gonzo (ゴンゾ), yet in 2005 he was selected as the chief director of the animation G.I. Joe: Sigma 6, which was broadcast in the United States; he thus moved his career to North America.
At the Shanghai World Expo held in 2010, Shizuno received invitation from the United Nations, in which, he produced a 3D animation named Millennium Baby (ミレニアムベビー), reflecting environmental issues (broadcast exclusively at the DEVNET pavilion of the United Nations area); he served as original author, director, as well as character design. This animation was then granted with the "United Nations Special Contribution Award".
In the Detective Conan anime, Shizuno served as episode director in 2004 and 2007, within cases Episode 378: Momotarou Mystery Solving Tour and Episode 465: The Shadow of the Black Organization (Shining Star of Pearl) respectively. In the Detective Conan movies, starting Movie 15: Quarter of Silence in 2011, Shizuno took over the movie director role from Yasuichiro Yamamoto and constantly did storyboard, technical director, and key animation along. After Movie 21: The Crimson Love Letter in 2017, he stepped down from the role (the proceeding movie was directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa). In 2020, Shizuno served as director in OP51 Makka na Lip.
