Studio Wanpack (スタジオワンパック Sutajio Wanpakku ) was a Japanese animation studio established in 1993 and used for outsourcing. It has been contracted directly by TMS Entertainment since 2013.
Biography
Initially, the studio joined the production for the anime in 2009 via Kagura Co., Ltd., and was responsible for key animation and animation direction works. The first time when the animators from Studio Wanpack joined Detective Conan was Episode 522: Shinichi's True Face and Ran's Tears, with Masakazu Yamazaki and Shunryo Yamamura. However, they did not perform well enough as the characters from their hands were severely out of shape, thus the episode gained criticism.
After that, Studio Wanpack introduced several animation directors such as Aki Kumada, Yumiko Ishii and Kana Miyai. In the meantime, staff such as Masakazu Yamazaki and Kana Miyai quit the studio. At the end of 2011, Miho Tanaka stepped up as animation director for Studio Wanpack. Akane Imada later replaced her in 2014. Yui Ushinohama, who was initially an assistant animation director, replaced Akane Imada afterwards. Having Yui Ushinohama, the quality of their work increased a lot.
On January 2, 2018, the chairman of Studio Wanpack, Koji Yamada (山田 浩嗣), passed away. Thus, it was later officially announced on February 1, 2018, that the twenty-four-year-old studio would be disbanded on February 28, 2018. On the same day, Yui Ushinohama declared on her twitter account that Episode 895: The Tokyo-Style Detective Show Next Door (Part 2) would be the last time that Studio Wanpack participate in the production of the anime under the title of "production cooperation".
Although the studio is now disbanded, some of the past members joined TMS Entertainment or started being freelancers to continue working in the Detective Conan anime production, like Yui Ushinohama and Hiroaki Takagi.
