Surrounded by a crowd, Conan and Heiji examine the cell phone that fell next to Miku Narasawa's body. Tenma Anzaka then arrives and loudly asks if it is true that Miku jumped to her death. His colleagues Toshikata Yoshiura and Nobuya Nagakubo explain to him that it is still unclear whether her death was a suicide, as she could also have been pushed. Heiji asks the group if they know who the cell phone belongs to. Youka Kuraishi identifies it as Miku's cell phone, whereupon Anzaka asks if there is anything written on the cell phone. Conan shows the group the words on the screen: "I am the devil's puppeteer". Yoka reacts with extreme shock and faints. Anzaka catches her, which Ayari Kakiwaki watches with a dark smile.

Some time later, Conan, Ran, Heiji, Kazuha and Kogoro meet with Goro Otaki from the Osaka police in the theater troupe building. Since the group was in the dressing room with all the main actors shortly before the murder, Otaki needs them to compare the suspects' statements. The suspects have insisted that the interviews be held in their building because the murder case has changed the distribution of roles and rehearsals have to be carried out on short notice.

 +
Anzaka is interviewed first. Otaki wants to know why Miku left the dressing room with Anzaka before her death. Anzaka says that she followed him against his will because she had a crush on him. She wanted to go to the roof terrace of Naniwa Harukas with him because that is currently very popular among couples. Heiji also remembers his plan to confess his love to Kazuha up there. Kogoro confirms Anzaka's statement that Miku followed him against his will. Anzaka further states that he shook Miku off by pretending to go to the bathroom. He then mentions how unusual he finds it that Otaki speaks to him so politely and formally; when asked by Heiji, Otaki explains that he knows Anzaka a from previous encounters. Now Otaki wants to know if there is anyone who might have had something against Miku. Anzaka can only think of Youka, as Miku often teased her about her Kyoto dialect.
 +
 +
Next, Youka Kuraishi is questioned. She confirms that Miku couldn't stand her Kyoto dialect; Youka is originally from Kanto and trained herself to use the dialect for her role. However, Kazuha says that Youka's Kyoto dialect is perfect, which makes Youka happy. Kogoro suspects that there must have been something else that bothered Miku about Youka. Panicked, Youka screams that there was nothing else. Conan then asks why Youka fainted when devil's puppeteer was mentioned. Youka explains that Kyousuke Kabumoto, who originally had this nickname, had taught her the Kyoto dialect, which is why she was afraid that his curse could now affect her too. Otaki then asks Youka if there is anyone who might have had something against Miku. Youka only remembers that Miku did not get along well with Ayari, even though they were both from the same agency.
 +
 +
Ayari Kakiwaki is then questioned. She is surprised by what Youka said, since she is so devious herself. She also mentions that she is no longer playing the role of Rieko Mori, but is taking on the role of the deceased Miku, Ochiba Toyama; she even has her hair tied in a ponytail like Ochiba. Regarding her relationship with Miku, Ayari says that they started out as actresses at the same time in the same region, so they often auditioned for the same roles and exchanged dirty looks, but that was all. Nevertheless, she also helped Miku and told her her romantic rival's weak point. Otaki asks whose weak point she is talking about, but Ayari claims that she has forgotten who exactly did what, but that was also a real crime story. Maybe she will remember it at a the right time, says Ayari, because she has higher goals. Kogoro interjects that this could be enough of a motive for Miku's murder, but Ayari insists that she has forgotten it. But she still remembers well that Nagakubo repeatedly hit on Miku and repeatedly got rejected.
 +
 +
When Nagakubo is questioned, he admits that Miku kept rejecting him, but that is not why he would murder her. Nagakubo was convinced that Miku would come to his senses if he just asked her often enough; for this attitude, Ran and Kazuha mentally label him a creep. He also wanted to tell the police something: he believes that Anzaka is the culprit, because when the body was found, it seemed to Nagakubo as if Anzaka had been there the whole time, but he acted as if he had only just arrived. Heiji interjects that Anzaka has the perfect alibi, because in this case it would have been impossible for him to push Miku off the roof, but he had not mentioned this in his interrogation. After thinking for a moment, Nagakubo backtracks and says that he was probably mistaken. Kogoro finds this strange, so Nagakubo quickly turns the conversation to the fact that Yoshiura had said strange things that seemed like a prediction. When Yoshiura found out that Nagakubo was also after the role of Daigoro Mori, he said that this could still happen, as he himself could soon take on the role of Heiichi. In addition, Ayari could soon get the role of Kaede. In reality, however, Ayari got the role of Ochiba.
 +
 +
When Toshikata Yoshiura's turn comes, he is nowhere to be seen. He has an upset stomach and has locked himself in the toilet for some time. Conan, Heiji, Kogoro and Otaki go to the men's toilet and fetch his testimony about said "prediction" through the closed stall door. Upset, Yoshiura claims that it was all just wishful thinking, that he did not mean to imply or predict anything. Yoshiura now asks for a little privacy in the toilet, so the investigators leave him alone for the time being. They go back to the rehearsal room, where they only find Youka of the suspects. She says that Yoshiura is in the toilet, Nagakubo has gone to the supermarket to buy cigarettes, Anzaka is taking a nap and Ayari has gone out because of a phone call.
 +
 +
Youka goes with Heiji and Conan to the dormitory on the fifth floor to wake Anzaka and continue the questioning with him. She was supposed to wake Anzaka in half an hour anyway; she knocks on the door and calls for him, but when she opens the door, Anzaka is still sleeping. Heiji asks her if Anzaka takes naps more often; Youka explains that this has been happening more often recently and Anzaka often looks tired, but she does not know what he has been doing all the time. Now Anzaka turns on his side in bed and mumbles in his half-sleep that Youka should speak more quietly and that she should wake him up on her own. Conan notes that Yoka and Anzaka seem very familiar, whereupon Youka tells him that she went to high school with Anzaka. Suddenly they hear a scream and a dull thud from outside. They run through Anzaka's bedroom, pull the curtain, open the balcony door and step out. They look over the railing and are shocked. Now Anzaka comes over, yawning and complaining about the noise, before he too looks down and sees the body of Ayari Kakiwaki in the parking lot below. Heiji and Conan notice that her body looks like a puppet, just like Miku's body.
