Starting in 2021, the Detective Conan movies released in theatres began focusing on a designated theme every year; as such, covering all aspects of the plots in the introduction of each movie became increasingly challenging. To provide a better overview of the information to audiences, TMS Entertainment decided to promote Compilation Movies, also referred to as Recap Movies.
Additional concept
Simply put, compilation movies are clip shows of Detective Conan episodes already broadcast, whereby they are re-compiled and re-edited together, with a time duration of approximately a normal movie[N 1]. Normally, people would treat them as pre-movie "trailers".
The first compilation movie released was The Scarlet Alibi, on the 11th of February, 2021. Initially, it was only planned to exclusively air for three weeks; however, due to the high opinions from the audiences, the screening time was extended beyond March 5 of the same year. It was later collected within the premium DVD/Blu-Ray of that movie.
Most of these compilations related to annual movie releases are scheduled for theatrical release; nonetheless, there was an exception in 2022, the year Movie 25 premiered. The compilation was produced by the exact same staff yet was made into a TV Special and broadcast in the time slot of Friday Road Show, under the title Love Story at Police Headquarters ~Wedding Eve~.

All of the organising and script-writing are done by the veteran screenwriter, Junichi Miyashita. The character design for all these recap movies is by Junko Yamanaka, the former character designer of the Detective Conan main anime[N 2]. The video production is done by Gal Enterprise Inc., a company that specialises in CG animation. Precisely, the director of all the recap movies, Shunsuke Ishihara, is also affiliated with said company.
New scenes are added at the end of each compilation movie, requiring key animators and animation directors to work on them. However, in The Story of Ai Haibara ~Black Iron Mystery Train~, due to significant animation failures that occurred during the original production of the Mystery Train arc, the problematic scenes were rectified during the recap movie's release. Additionally, the analogue celluloid masters underwent remastering. In Detective Conan vs. Kid the Phantom Thief, the size of the key animation group increased substantially, as the recap movie production team decided to redraw some key frames from older episodes using the current character designs.
Moreover, since 2023, the production has been fully handled by the TMS 7th studio: 7STUDIO (第7スタジオ)[N 3]. This subsidiary was led by Keiichi Ishiyama (from V1 Studio)[N 4], who served as chief producer and producer in these movies.

Notes
- ^ Please do not confuse this with the actual movie; they are often mistaken by some audiences due to their analogous names.
- ^ Ever since Junko Yamanaka stepped down from the character design role during the Koujin Ochi directional era, her involvement in the Detective Conan anime has drastically declined. Recently, she has become more active in animation produced by TMS 7STUDIO, including serving as the character designer for 7STUDIO's Lupin the 3rd vs. Cat's Eye.
- ^ The former Detective Conan movie director, Kobun Shizuno, also became involved in the recap movies produced by this studio. After stepping down from his role as director, Shizuno consistently worked under the 7th studio. In Detective Conan vs. Kid the Phantom Thief from 2024, he served as the opening technical director under the alias KOBUN.
- ^ The studio was established by many former V1 Studio members; Ishiyama was also temporarily absent from his position as chief producer for the main anime in episodes 1003-1119, which was when the reorganisation of TMS Entertainment happened.
