When Conan returns home, he discovers that the one year supply of beer that Doctor Owada won is a lie because the draw didn't start yet. The next day, the Detective Boys find out the raffle had been fixed by a tall and slender woman posing as the doctor's wife and when walking down the streets, they overhear gossip of the doctor's other made up winnings. Following the trail of gossip, they soon find the woman responsible for the rumors named Akiko Shiina and her motive. Haibara tells her that sometimes it's brave to not show yourself, to which Ayumi responds that she doesn't want to run away because, "If I run away, I can't win!" These words ring in Haibara's head. Ayumi confronts the killer, and additional evidence thanks to Conan is able to solve the case. Haibara later finally tells Jodie that no, she will not go into the witness protection program. Could that man have to do with the cell phone?

The Detective Boys visit a pet shop and find the owner, Minoru Shirai, dead. They find a Rhinoceros beetle and pamphlets of an insect museum at Gunma Prefecture. Takagi drives the Detective Boys to the museum where they learn that a truck load of Rhinoceros beetles were stolen from the van. A serial killer who strangles his victims first then stabs them though their wallet to their chest appears in Osaka. Heiji Hattori invites Conan, Ran, and Mouri for a tour in Osaka. While on the tour they meet Kazuha Toyama who has followed them since the beginning to "Keep an eye on Heiji from Ran". Later, their a body is dropped onto the car, the third victim of the same serial killer. After failing to prevent the fourth victim from being killed, they found out the victims are indeed connected, they took the driving test at the same time at the same place. Heiji then travels to meet up with the councilman named Gouji, who is a suspect of causing the murders. Conan is forced by Ran to travel with another officer to go to their hotel but due to an emergency, they are driven to the site where Numabuchi, a mass murder and also a suspect, is thought to be hiding. After Conan finds him, he realizes Numabuchi and Gouji are not the murderer. Heiji also realizes this and both figure out Sakada, the tour guide police, is the murderer. After stopping his suicide, Heiji is shot but survives.

While driving, they find a message from the Phantom of the Cursed Masks who tells them they should not go. Once there, they find other famous celebrities; a baseball player, a prophet, a rockstar, and a man who lost his wife in a Hit and Run incident. The mansion they will be staying at is a huge mansion divided by the east and west side; and the only room connecting the two sides is the mask room, which is locked at midnight due to Shobel's mask. They were created by a famous man who lost everything and became engrossed in his masks; once he created 200 of them, he was found dead in his room surrounded with bloody masks. People who have owned his mask have suffered tragic fates. Shou who now owns all 200 masks has a priest place a seal on the curse, but the room will locked at midnight to prevent them from wandering. During their stay, Shou was murdered in a locked room with masks surrounding her and a dagger in her throat. Conan later figures out the trick and reveals the culprit. The culprit reveals that his mother was blamed for a hit and run incident and murdered by Shou, who then took fame and profit from her charity. | |||||||||||||

Some bombs will display the location of an even bigger bomb if left for the last three seconds, this resulted in the death of Sato's partner in the past. After following clues placed by the bomber, Takagi and Conan are trapped in an elevator, where they await the bomb's clue to the location of an even bigger bomb. Conan disarms the bomb before the last second as he has already figured out the last part of the code. He stops the bomber and he is captured.

This time, it contains seven. They also found a cellphone with a will on it, confessing Futagawa's crime and decided to commit suicide. Conan realizes that he didn't commit suicide and the seven cigarette was a clue to the real murderer. So they decided to search to each one's rooms and belongings to find the murder weapon. This special Christmas episode of "Detective Conan" is introduced by Heiji Hattori, Conan Edogawa, Ran Mouri, and Kazuha Toyama. Heiji won a bet in the previous episode and so it's decided that they're all going to the high school baseball finals in Koshien Stadium. But there is a mysterious guy willing to commit a suicide bombing there. This incident just puts more stress on Conan and Heiji, even though they came to a ball game for amusement and relaxation. The unknown person gives them a chance to stop him, however. Heiji and Conan are both struggling to crack the codes, sent by the mysterious man, before the bomb goes off. Earlier, Conan and Heiji witnessed the person walk by them and they thought he dropped his cell phone, when he purposely left it there to "play the inevitable game" with them, consisting of cryptic text messages. In order to solve this case and save countless lives, Heiji and Conan would need a lot a background information dealing with America's favorite pastime, baseball.
