Thinking that Kenya will make a move upon seeing Ran, Sera has Conan and Ran approach the couple upon the pretense of needing a meal. However, Kenya doesn't seem to be interested in Ran and asks Ran to accompany Rumi to wake Waka, Kenya's ex-girlfriend. Rumi and Ran has to open Waka's apartment with a key when no one answers. Later, Ran finds Waka on the bathroom floor, but she collapses herself due to chlorofoam in the air. Conan has a bad feeling that Black Organization will attack him or Haibara now. Bourbon stalks Conan as he makes a phone call to Haibara.

Kogoro, Ran, and Conan are out walking when a robbery occurs. Conan and Kogoro are able to take down the robber and hand him to the police. A crowd gathered to watch the scene and Kogoro's friend, Yumi recognizes him. After talking about the judo class reunion that is to take place that day, she leaves. While turning back, Conan and Kogoro realize the gun the robber had is missing. That night at the reunion, they plan to go out and watch fireworks. Kogoro's friends did not go leaving only Conan, Kogoro, and Ran. Yumi is missing from dinner so the judo members go to her room to wake her up from her sleep. There, they find her dead from a gunshot wound to the head and in her hand was the missing gun from before. Kogoro realizes that burn marks are missing from Yumi's temple meaning that it was a murder and one of the judo members is the suspect. First appearance of Jun Omura. Kogoro meets with his old friends.

Conan recognizes two things strange about Yumi's body; the finger was not on the trigger and she was naked under her robe. Conan then realizes who the murderer is and plans to tranquilize Kogoro to solve the case. Realizing how determined Kogoro is on solving the case, Conan instead decides to drop subtle hints and let Kogoro solve the case. Kogoro solves the case, revealing that Yumi died much earlier and that exercise from table tennis caused her body to undergo rigor mortis much earlier. He reveals that the judo member who murdered Yumi was Kazushi Nakamichi. Nakamichi revealed that he was dating Yumi for eighteen years and he proposed to her multiple time but she always turned him down. When he became engaged to another woman, Yumi terrorized them both with threats. He revealed that he picked up the gun from the robbery earlier, seeing it as a sign to murder Yumi. Kogoro meets with his old friends.

Ayumi came to school one night to find a masked man. She told the vice-principal about it and he became absent for the last two days and the other teachers are acting suspicious. The Detective Boys sneak into the school at night where they find puppets with their names on it, mannequins and statues being moved, and someone trying to scare them with red paint and dry ice. The Detective Boys pretend to be scared and hide in the bathroom. When they come out, they find their teacher, Ms. Kobayashi, secretly practicing for the parent meet. However, she claims to not have tried to scare them off and they realize that someone else is indeed in the school. However, it is actually the vice-principal who lost his toupee and had been searching for it for the last two nights. First appearance of Sumiko Kobayashi and Ryujiro Uematsu.

Conan, Ran, Sonoko and Sera are walking through the woods as Sera explains the reason for their excursion, that she has been asked by her brother to visit his former classmates in order to solve a case, as well as the fact that herself, and both her older brothers have different surnames. Sonoko and Ran spot a red woman lurking in the woods and describe her to the group, which is interrupted by Conan falling and discovering a swamp.

With the arrival of the Nagano police, the murder case and details, such as the fact that no blood traces where found in the bathroom is explained to Yui Uehara, who remembers Conan from earlier cases. As the other guests are in distraught over Masaie's death, their whereabouts are told to Yui, Tamami was preparing dinner, Sumika was cleaning rooms and Jinsuke went shopping. It is mentioned that the water was coloured green-ish due to the bath salts, Masaie lost conscious due to a head injury caused by dumbbells, which also kept his body under water, which wasn't visible due to the floating tomatoes in the bathtub.

Yui Uehara, Masami and Conan conduct a search in the rooms of the guests, to no avail, since they don't fine knife-like objects or wigs. While they consider Sumika faking the attack on her, the duo clears up the possibility due to the nature of her cut, which was horizontal. A woman is seen lurking outside again, which, although not connected, startles Uehara after her being mentioned.The group checks some pictures which point to the red hints of all the previous 'pranks'. In one the pictures, Satoko is seen wearing a cardigan, to which Yui points out that on the day she was found she was wearing a red coat. She points out that the ones who found the knife 3 years ago were Kansuke Yamato and Taka'aki Morofushi, while they were still attending police academy. Morofushi was sure that the bones which were found belonged to the red woman, while Yamato was opposed to the idea, even after it had been proven, he refused to accept it. This is the first appearance of Unknown child on Masumi's phone.

After an unlucky while at the pachinko salon, Kogoro who walks about sees Conan at a small police office near a train station. He walks in angrily only to find out that Conan was there only to return a found wallet. As they are about to leave the well-known comedian Rokusuke Dodonpa (real name: Rokusuke Tanigaki) walks in and announces to have murdered his chief.

Ran went to a karate tournament so Conan and Kogoro eat breakfast without her. Rokusuke's apology is publicly broadcasted via television, and when Conan's mentioning about how much of a good person he must be, to take the blame in order to protect his boss' honor, Kogoro says that he'll probably be swarmed with contracts from new agents, making the whole situation look even more fishy.

Conan, Ran, Sonoko and Masumi walk down the street while talking about the red woman case. They ask her about her self defense techniques, to which she says that her brother used to send her tapes which she watched many times. She tells them that her mother still lives in the United States, which is a reason why she's now staying in a hotel, since her brother didn't want them to live together. Sonoko makes a remark about the cost of living in a hotel, but Masumi tells her that a friend of her father is taking care of it. The groups makes the decision to visit the hotel she is staying at, after which she cancels plans which she had to meet up with her brother. While Ran,Sonoko,Sera and Conan are having a tea party , the girls are talking about their relationship. When Sera asks Conan about the girl he doesn't forget and Conan can't answer, Sonoko tell that he (Conan) ends with Ayumi but Ran said that she thought Conan likes Haibara making Conan shocked. When Ran asks Conan face to face,Conan blushed and said to himself"it's you"'

Takagi asks Conan and Masumi if they have taken shampoo bottle caps away from the crime scene, but they haven't, since they only reached the door and didn't go further. He also mentions that somebody has thrown over the table, which landed in the victim's suitcase in the room with beer which was spilled in it. He mentions that the suitcase was quite large, even though there weren't many things in it - clothing, make up, a laptop, a bag and an old post card. The twenty year old post cast was written by Hiura, stating that if he was to use the story he would use the recipient's name for the protagonist. It was addressed to Outa Jun. Ran quickly mentions that Outa Jun is, in fact, the name of the protagonist in the author's book "The cellphone, the sea and I". She quickly explains the plot of the book to the group. A scratched mobile phone is found on the beach, a model which hasn't been released yet, with the message "How old are you?", after a few exchanges via messages between the person who found the phone and the one who was sending the messages, it can be concluded that the person is sending messages from the future. The answer to the question who was sending the messages was "The cellphone, the sea and I", which the protagonist at first didn't understand, but soon she replied with the exact message. The meaning of that message is to be revealed in the new book. After finding a bug in a pair of glasses by which she is impressed, The Unknown Child tells Masumi that she doesn't trust Conan yet, but should the moment arise, Masami can tell Conan that she is her little sister from outside the territory.

Conan, Ran and Kogoro arrive in Kanazawa via train and as they leave the station they see the Tsuzumimon gate. Kogoro has been asked to participate in the Kaga-Hyakumangoku mystery tour. Yuzo Tanimoto, a tourism association employee introduces himself first, followed by Moeko Miyazawa who also works for the association, Yuya Tadokoro, an event manager and Osamu Kuranishi and Harumi Akiyama who both also are employees for the association. After having received each business card, Kogoro introduces himself as the great detective and prepares to hand out his golden business cards.

Near the castle they spot Akiyama on the floor, bludgeoned as Osamu runs towards her. He yells at the rest to call an ambulance and Conan observes that this might have been just a case of mugging, since her handbag is open and lying on the floor, but if it was just a random case then there should be more victims, concluding that the culprit must have targeted Akiyama.

Because Professor Agasa's bath is broken, Conan, Ran, and Haibara head for a bath house. While there, he notices a suspicious man opening a locker. Conan catches a glimpse of what is inside, and the man closes it quickly. While thinking about the man, Conan slips and hits his head on the ground. Before he could stand up, the suspicious man walked over to him and covered his mouth with a towel. Conan slowly fell unconscious. Then, the suspicious man and his partner say they're going to take Conan to a hospital and put him in their car.

Conan, Haibara and the Detective Boys run into a drug dealer who is being chased by the police. The drug dealer looses his notebook and Conan finds that there's a code inside about a drug exchange which is going to take place that same day. In order to stop it, they'll first need to solve the code and find the location and exact time. Conan mentions to Haibara that he emailed Masumi (offscreen) asking about the Unknown child, to which she responds as the girl told her, that "she is his sister from another domain". He asks Haibara what that might mean, but she does not know.

With the help of Heiji, they found out that the exchange is going to take place in Osaka. Heiji runs to the place and finds that Kazuha is there talking with one of the suspects. Heiji starts a fight against drug agents (mistaken as dealers) because they took Kazuha away from the meeting place. After clearing the misunderstanding, Kazuha asks Heiji about his words. Heiji avoids the discussion by pointing the lack of evidence. Conan is shown to have a recording of his words.

Haibara loves to hear Yoko Okino's songs due to the fact that Ryusuke Higo likes them too.

Conan, Haibara, Agasa and the Detective Boys spend the weekend at a cottage with the three sisters who own it and the little sister's boyfriend. After dinner, the little sister realized she ran out of medicine and her boyfriend volunteers to walk through the storm to bring her more. Once the storm has ended, everyone decides to look for him since he was taking too long, and they find him dead on the snow.

Mouri is targeted by a killer who is after Kimura. Mouri accidentally took his jacket at a bar and now the killer is trying to kill him. Conan finds out that Kimura is not who he seems to be. Kimura is said to be at a lake and Mouri goes to investigate. There he is seemingly shot by the culprit but, in fact, Conan has set a dummy in Mouri's place. The culprit reveals his motive was revenge.

Conan and the Detective Boys run into a man who had a knife in his hand and was being chased by a police officer. The man grabs Ayumi and faints while whispering something into her ear. Conan and the Detective Boys accompany the man and the police to the hospital and learn that he had some contusion on his head and the police officer was chasing him because he seemed suspicious.

Eri is hospitalized due to appendicitis. While being at the hospital, Kogoro and Conan run into Bourbon. At the same time, a patient was having a tea party with three friends when one of them is poisoned. Once he learns that Eri has undergone surgery, Kogoro rushes to the hospital worried about her. Bourbon asks Conan about Kusuda Rikumichi. Bourbon used to be called "Zero".

Bourbon and Conan help with the investigation and arrive to the conclusion that the culprit must have switched her cup with the victim in order to poison her. There is one problem though: each one of them is drinking a tea of a different color. Takagi shares information about Kusuda Rikumichi being a patient at Haido Central Hospital and about the bloodstains found inside his car. Bourbon is scolded by a woman that looks similar to Elena Miyano.

Shinichi helps the police to solve the murder case. As an apology for what happens, he promises Ran that he will take her to the the new amusement park, (Tropical Land), if she wins the next karate tournament. Shinichi says he'll go to the new amusement park, Tropical Land, with Ran. Shinichi buys Ran a new phone.

Jirokichi Suzuki receives a letter from Kaitou Kid which reveals that Kid plans on opening Jirokichi's impenetrable safe, the Iron Tanuki. The letter however is not written in Kid's usual style raising the ideal that an imposter is after Jirokichi's safe. Sonoko invites Ran, Kogoro, and Conan to Jirokichi's house. After examining the security of the safe, Kaitou Kid's card, in its usual style, is found confirming Kaitou Kid's plan to open the safe. Conan suspects that Kaitou Kid is one of the three newly hired workers of Jirokichi. Jirokichi however countinues to proclaim it to be the work of an imposter, causing Conan to suspect Jirokichi's behavior. Kaitou Kid goes after Suzuki's safe.

The nearly hired maid and adviser inform Conan of Jirokichi's strange behavior. They reveal that after dinner, two places are always missing and Jirokichi always brings his cane with him to the safe. Jirokichi asks the maid for a hand and they head to his room. Jirokichi leaves with his bodyguard for a drive. Shortly after, an unconscious Jirokichi is found tied up and his room and a note of Kaitou Kid is found on the safe. This causes the whole police force that are guarding the safe to abandon their position and chase after "Jirokichi". Conan meanwhile enters the room with the safe revealing the maid was Kaitou Kid in disguise. Conan reveals the first message by "Kaitou Kid" was actually done by Jirokichi asking for Kaitou's kid assistance. Conan also reveals Jirokichi purposely placed suspicion on himself in order to clear the area of cops so Kaitou Kid can open the safe. Inside the safe is revealed to be Jirokichi's dog, Lupin. Kid does a favor for Suzuki.

This episode begins with a flashback outside Haido Central Hospital, where Tooru Amuro obtains information from Detective Takagi regarding Rikumichi Kusuda and deduces that Rikumichi was shot by a gun. At the present, Natsuko Shibuya, a teacher at Haido Elementary School, receives a call from Jodie Starling while grading math tests at night. Natsuko tells Jodie she needed to meet with some parents soon after. After the conversation, Andre Camel asks Jodie about Natusko, and Jodie tells him that Natusko was her acquaintance. Natsuko was involved in a case while studying abroad in America, and Jodie helped her out. Jodie also reveals that she was able to go undercover in Japan as an English teacher because Natsuko taught her Japanese. Bourbon knows that Jodie and Camel are FBI agents. Bourbon and Vermouth appear. Jodie and Camel appears Mizunashi Rena's retrieval and Mystery Train cases.

Because Andre leaked out the fact that Rikumichi shot himself, Amuro now knows that Shuichi indeed faked his death. Bourbon and Vermouth learns that Kusuda Rikumuchi dies from a gunshot suicide. Vermouth disagree with Bourbon about Akai Shuichi's fake death. Jodie and Camel revisit Raiha Pass to investigate Akai's death.

When he picked up the photo, he thought back to two days ago, when Yumi told him she already through away the envelope he asked her to not open until he obtains all seven because he never called her ever since he gave it to her. After that small conversation, she stormed out of the cafe, where they were talking; when he came out, she was nowhere to be seen. As he tries to find her, a stranger watches him in a car, carrying an evil smile. Chikara Katsumata is introduced.

Conan, Shukichi, Professor Agasa, Haibara, and the Detective Boys arrive at Yureizaka and are heading towards a graveyard in the middle of that slope. The "seven" and "three" on the incense chariot piece refer to Kiyomasa's Seven Spears and the Three Great Spears of Japan. The overlapping region between the two spears represents Masanori Fukushima, a person of the Seven Spears who owns Hinomotogo, one of the Three Great Spears. The upside-down T is the cartographic symbol for graveyards. When asked by Professor Agasa who the kidnapper may be, Shukichi thinks back to a shogi match he played against the very same culprit. That incident was the culprit's motive for kidnapping Yumi. Shukichi is revealed to be one a sharp-minded person. Shukichi wins the Meijin title (the remaining of the seven shogi titles that he didn't posses). Sera invites Conan to her hotel room to talk with him. Yumi kisses Shukichi.

Masumi Sera and the unknown child are in their hotel room, waiting for Conan to arrive. The child is questioning whether they can actually trust him even though she thinks he's clever, but Masumi assures her everything will be fine. After the warning, she hides in the bathroom as Masumi opens the door to welcome Conan in. Sera tells Unknown child that they can trust Conan.

After Nagami said she would search for the necklace alone, the first person to return to the reception area was the hotel manager, at 12:05. During that time, she was looking for her necklace, and it took a while for her to notice Ensaku was standing behind her. When she saw him, she told him he was interfering, so he left the pool quickly. Ran has a feeling that she has met Sera before.

Kogoro is at Nichiuri TV Office, filming "Detective VS Weather Reporter" with Yasumi Sekine while Conan and Ran watch at the sidelines with Yukio Kodama, Takuya Yamaguchi, and Hiroko Shinohara. After the filming, Kogoro and Ran rest in a room while Conan goes to a vending machine to buy a bottle of oolong tea. As he picks up the bottle, he notices Yasumi and Yukio conversing secretly; after the small talk, they head out and split off. Then, Takuya hesitantly comes out of a room and follows Yasumi, and Conan follows him. Yasumi meets with Hiroko, who tells her the stage is good and ready. Hiroko asks her if she wanted to check the stage, but she said no because she trusted her.

While at the concert, the Detective Boys accidentally start the music too early, and if stopped it will anger the crowd even more. Conan tries to sing but that angers the crowd. The singer then takes the Detective Boys out with her to sing.

Next day, Kanzaki was going to disguise as Bekapon, however, he had a stomachache, so clerk Gyosuke Shimomura disguised instead Kanzaki. However, a attempted murder case was happened, and a victim was Shimomura as Bekapon. When the case was happened, the criminal was saying "Die, Kanzaki!"
