Meanwhile, Ran finds out that Heiji once made a yubikiri/pinkie promise to 'take Momiji as his bride'

At the same time, in a Japanese house in Arashiyama, Kyoto's outskirts, the reigning Satsuki Cup champion is murdered. Pictures of the crime scene reveal Momji's presence. Additionally, several karuta cards were spread around the victim.

Conan and Heiji, along with the Osaka and Kyoto police departments, begin their investigation on the Satsuki Cup and the related murder case. As the inquiry goes on, they come across a secret connected with the Hyakunin Isshu. <spoiler> Nagoro, who had been missing for 5 years, had been killed by Kensuke's wife Satsuki Achiwa. The motive is possibly she lost in the game and decided to kill him, because of that reason. The reason why he would play with her because this is his last time, that he could see her, it's because of his eyes are going to deteriorate. He even mentioned that he's her first love, and saying that this would be his last time to compete with her. Kensuke witnessed the murder of Nagoro, he even hid it so that no one knows. Kensuke Achiwa killed his secretary, and decided to commit suicide after the match of Kazuha and Momiji, at the tallest hall. Luckily, when it exploded, Conan led Achiwa and Momiji to the elevator, while Heiji used his bike to take Kazuha to a nearby ledge, telling her he had something he had to tell her before he died.

Afterwards, it is revealed that Momiji won the final game, but Kazuha was just happy that she got her favorite card, 'Shinoburedo', which talks about a hidden love. It also is the only card whose poet had the same starting character of his name as Heiji. Kazuha sent an email to Heiji containing the image file of the card.

Then, Momiji walks into the hotel lobby and declares she has come to confess to Heiji, adding that she had already been confessed to, and showed Heiji the photo proof. Heiji tells Momiji that he actually said that 'he would play her again once they became stronger'. 'Stronger' was 'TSUyome', while Momiji heard it as 'Yome' which is slang for 'bride' in Japanese. She calls her butler immediately and leaves, telling Kazuha that once she has a favorite card, she won't let anyone take it from her.

On the bullet train home, Ran is sends an image file of 'meguri aite' to Shinichi, and gets the card 'Seohayami' back. Ran asks Sonoko the meaning of the card, and smiling at the meaning of the card, she hangs up before answering.

    • Takahiro Ōkura, a detective novelist famed for his Assistant Inspector Fukuie series (featured in Volume 85), wrote the script for the movie. It was his second Conan work. The first is the script for The Mysterious Boy, which is different from the movie, being really showy and flashy.[5]

    • The movie has a running time of 112 minutes.
    • In manga file 1002, Ran first mentions having met Momiji Ooka before during a previous trip to Kyoto with her father; an event which has not occurred within the manga series itself.
