Effectively, Watanuki ''did'' kill Sanae. She worked for a firm which Watanuki had invested for, so Sanae tried to convince him to keep investing so she wouldn't lose her job upon it. Watanuki refused and went towards his room in the second floor, but Sanae tried to stop him; he tried to push her away and then Sanae lost her balance, plumetting down the stairs and dying when she hit her head on the wall.

Watanuki, upon seeing that he had accidentally killed the girl, buried her body in a small empty place near the construction site. He incessantly vigiled it so no one would find it... but there was something he didn't know. Sanae had a small flower seed bag in her pocket, a gift from one of her friends; the seeds grew and the flowers blossomed, signaling the place where she was "buried"

Plot

Part 1

Matt Kohler claims Walter Rivers has killed his sister and has buried her in his yard. Making things worse is the intent he has to break into Rivers yard when he's gone to the hospital for his weekly Saturday treatment. Conan believes the story at first, but a call with Kohler's voice causes him to begin doubting everything he has heard.

Part 2

Matt Kohler hides stolen jewelry in Walter Rivers yard to force the police department to dig it up, but unbeknown to him is that Mother Nature has caused an optical illusion to fool witness Sean Moss. Can Conan prove Matt's innocence before a guilty man gets away permanently?
