Sugita (杉田 Sugita ), commonly referred to as Detective Sugita (杉田刑事 Sugita-keiji ), is a character in the manga and anime franchise Detective Conan.
Background
Sugita is a detective from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, Division One Investigations. He loves Sato and is thus jealous of Takagi, much often to boycott along with several other officers their dates. He is always scared by Matsumoto.
He meets Conan in several cases and his great deduction impresses him only during Takagi's kidnapping, but Conan justifies himself saying which, when he consulted Shinichi earlier on the phone, that's what he told him. In the end, along with Haibara, Conan shows to the police the trick used by the culprit, even if he making them to believe that is Agasa to find the evidence.
During Takagi's kidnapping, he is one of the numerous detectives on duty to search for him. He contacts Superintendent Matsumoto that an overseas server was used for the tablet where we see a live footage of Takagi and tells that there's very little possibility about finding out the source of the server and that even though they find it, it can be routed to many other countries.
In a previous case, along with other officers, he had to save Conan by a murder suspect who kidnapped a girl at Haido's shipping mall and attempted to escape, but as a result Conan successfully rescued the girl and was taken hostage as a substitute. As Megure orders them, the hostage's life is their priority.
