Trivia
- Maria Toda reappears in the one year ago flashback from The Locked Room in the Sky: Shinichi Kudo's First Case.
- 2 SUV in The Case are Brown 1991 Mitsubishi Pajero [V20].
- Shinichi/Conan’s favorite Holmes story is revealed in this case to be “The Sign of Four”, one of the four Holmes novels.
- This is the first case where Kogoro is referred to as “Sleeping Kogoro”.
- Kogoro may like Agatha Christie, however he knows nothing about Sherlock Holmes.
- When asked about his favorite Sherlock Holmes book, Kogoro says that his favorite book was "And Then There Were None," although he got the name wrong, and really had no idea of who wrote it.
- The inn is named "Mycroft, which is the name of Sherlock Holmes' brother, and built on a cliff-edge"
- Ran may have been worried, however Conan fits in exceedingly well with the "Sherlockians," considering he really is one too, and lousy at hiding it.
- The Sherlockians were ecstatic to meet Conan, who know doubt is named after Arthur Conan Doyle. He did not even have to tell them that is why he chose the name.
- While Conan was singing off about Holmes to the Sherlockians, Hattori began singing off about his rival Shinichi Kudo. He even knew that he sings off-key, but is great at soccer.
- Hattori's accent is called Kansei-ben, which is spoken of in Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and Kobe.
- Hattori entered this tour so that he would hopefully meet off with Shinichi Kudo again, since he knows that he is a big Holmes fan.
- Hattori prefers Ellery Queen to Conan Doyle, however when he said that at the inn, all of the Sherlockians and Conan gave him a look that could kill.
- Thankfully, Hattori noticed, and rephrased his speech, "... but I guess Doyle is still the best," which brought a smile to all of the other Sherlockians, although Conan wasn't buying it.
- Study In Scarlet is the prize that the winner would receive, it the contest went as it should, and did not become a murder mystery, with the first edition prize not really being mentioned, except for bait to commit another murder by the culprit.
- On May 4, 1981 is the day Holmes fell off of a cliff with Professor Moriarty.
- This is the first time that a person went over the cliff in a car, although they were already very well deceased at the time.
- Hattori has his second head-on-collision with Conan, and when he quits griping that the little kid is in his way, he begins to notice similarities between Conan and Shinichi.
- No sooner than Ran telling Hattori that her father "has been solving all of his cases lately, and because he looks like he is asleep when he does his reasoning, he is now called "Sleeping Kogoro,"" He immediately took her to the side and asked where Conan was when he does his reasoning, giving off the hint that he has an idea of how the "Sleeping Detective" trick works, before he even sees it.
- The first time an ice pick is used in a crime.
- Conan tells Hattori, "I like playing detective," however soon Hattori realized that "This kid isn't playing detective; he's doing full-fledged detective reasoning. Although the voice and body are different, could he be Shinichi Kudo?"
- This is the first episode that mentions "Sherlock Holmes' "Dancing Men."
- Kogoro woke up the tranquilized Hattori with a knock on the head, who remained pretending to be asleep in order to secretly observe Conan speaking in his voice, but with a strange Dialect.
- While impersonating Hattori's voice, Conan tended to exaggerate the word endings creating a strange dialect, since he is unable to replicate the Kansei-ben dialect of Hattori's.
- Heiji Hattori successfully deduced that Conan Edogawa was Shinichi Kudo, and how the "Sleeping Detective" trick worked.
- Conan even told him about the syndicate that forced him to take a drug which shrank him into his 7 year old body.
- Since Hattori was practically convinced of Conan's identity prior to him being tranquilized, he purposely withheld his own deduction to force Conan to solve the case.
