Case

Situation

Part 1

Conan, Ran, Sonoko, Masumi, and Makoto are walking on the street after watching a movie, when they find a man taking a woman hostage. Fortunately, Makoto knocks down the criminal to later see Shigematsu Tomioka telling that all of the scene was a drama shooting. Since the actor was unconscious, Makoto is choosen as the understudy. They later meet an actor, an actress, a production assistant and a makeup artist. The actor, Saiya Tokuzono is so annoying because he made a joke by making the actress, Nanako Jinmei to sign an autograph using an electric pen. When Makoto and Tokuzono go to an abandoned building, the staff prepares to film some scenes. When the director asks for Tokuzono, the actor suddenly screams and falls, and Makoto is the main suspect because he was in the same floor when the murder took place.

Murder

Location: Abandoned building Victim: Saiya Tokuzono Age: 34 years old Cause of death: Blunt force trauma by falling Suspects: Makoto Kyogoku, Shigematsu Tomioka, Daisaku Odori, Nanako Jinmei, Hideka Aburai, and Yota Hoegi When Conan, the girls, and the staff are in the yard of the building, they see Tokuzono falling from the window, and later see Makoto checking from the same window where the actor fell.

The police investigate the scene and also add the staff as suspects. Later, the assistant director find something in the room of the murder. After looking at camera recordings, the assistant director, Daisaku Odori seems to solve the murder and starts to blackmail the culprit.

Part 2

Conan discovers some clues but he has not discover the culprit yet. Sera starts asking Ran about Shinichi's sickness and where Conan was when Shinichi was around.

Conan later learns about the deceased production assistant called Nishibe, who was also Hideka's boyfriend. When all of the staff were drinking some drinks that were bought by Yota and Takagi, the assistant director suddenly falls poisoned onto the ground.

Murder? or Suicide?

Later, Sera almost discovers Conan's true identity after he responds normally when she called him Shinichi Kudo.

Part 3

Conan tries to convince Sera that he is not Shinichi, but Sera does not believe him. She then asks Ran and Sonoko if there is any child that looked more mature around Conan, and they both mention Haibara.

While playing games with the Detective Boys at Agasa Residence, Haibara tells Agasa that thirty years ago, her father worked as a member of Shirohato Pharmaceuticals R&D team. However, the company went bankrupt twenty-five years ago and her parents decided to open a small clinic. Meanwhile, after some investigation, Conan solves the case using Sonoko's voice.

Resolution

The culprit is Hideka Aburai. First, she set a butterfly toy under Tokuzono's phone outside the window. When Tokuzono tried to get his phone, the toy would suddenly fly. Because Tokuzono hates bugs, he was startled that he slipped and fell down onto the ground. Odori later found the toy inside the room of the murder scene.

She then poisoned Odori by removing a straw tip, coating it with poison, and put it on another straw like a cap. When Odori fell, she was the first to approach, removed the cap, and stored it inside her medicine capsule.

Her motives are:

• When Nishibe was pranked by Tokuzono, he remembered how he caused Nanako to have an accident, causing him did not get any sleep that night. Because of that, he died while driving to the filming location the next day. She is also being angered by Tokuzono's words that actors could not be replaced, unlike production assistants.
• Odori discovered that she was the murderer of Tokuzono because she was looking up to the window, so he started to blackmail her.

After she was discovered, she tried to commit suicide, but is saved by Makoto and Ran.

Attempted Suicide
	Location: Abandoned building yard (also drama set) Victim: Hideka Aburai Age: 26 years old Cause: Car crash She tried to commite suicide by crashing the staff van with her inside, but is stopped and saved by Makoto and Ran.

In the end, the director tried to scout Makoto, but he is stuttering too much.

Manga to anime changes

• Hideka Aburai's hair in the manga is black, but is changed to brown in the anime.
• Daisaku Odori's hair in the manga is black, but is changed to grey in the anime.
• A flashback from The Desperate Revival is added in the anime, when Ran talked about the time when both Shinichi and Conan were together.
• A short scene of Mitsuhiko sneezing is added in the anime, compared to the manga where it is only told by the characters.
• At the end of the deduction, it's Conan who reveals that the trick used in the second murder was infact a fail-safe in case Tokuzono survived the first murder attempt, due to the fact that it's very risky to use the cap trick with shake that normally came with straight-type straw, compared to the Manga where Aburai reveals it herself and the topic regarding straw type is not mentioned.
• When Aburai tries to commit suicide by crashing into the building, she drives around the ground area one time in order to increase the car's speed. Masumi is also thrown off the car after she tries to break in the driver's window.
• A scene of Aburai's arrest is added at the end of the episode, with both Jinmei and Tomioka being sad that their co-worker is the murderer. Tomioka also brings up that Ran's personality being similar to Yukiko in order to cheer Jinmei up.

• The police car from The High School Girl Trio's Secret Café reappeared.
• The restaurant fanchised Welcome Burger, named after McDonalds', which appeared in Clash of Red and Black, reappears in this case.
• The movie in the beginning shows the Azengers, a group of heroes that are actually inspired by Marvel Comics' Avengers. The movie shows Kamen Yaiba joining the group.
• The film production staff's van is a white Toyota HiAce. The license plate number is 新宿 330, ふ 59-65 (Shinjuku 330, Fu 59-65).
• The car that rammed Jinmei in the past is a white hardtop Mercedes CLK320. The license plate number is 新宿 320, ま 23-06 (Shinjuku 320, Ma 23-06).
