Background
Sugita is a detective from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, Division One Investigations. He loves Sato and is thus jealous of Takagi, often attempting to interrupt along with several other officers their dates. He has respect for Matsumoto and Kuroda, and follows their orders.
He meets Conan in several cases and his great deduction impressed him only during Takagi's kidnapping, but Conan justifies himself by saying that when he consulted Shinichi earlier on the phone, that's what he told him.[1] In the end, along with Haibara, Conan shows to the police the trick used by the culprit, even if he making them to believe that is Agasa to find the evidence.[2]
In a case, along with other officers, he had to save Conan from a murder suspect who kidnapped a girl at Haido's shipping mall and attempted to escape. As a result Conan successfully rescued the girl and was taken hostage as a substitute. As Megure orders, the hostage's life is their priority.[3] During another case, Conan uses Kogoro's voice to call the police and asks Takagi to check something for him at the scene. Sugita answers the call and informs Takagi while he is questioning their main suspect along with Megure.[4]
