Akatsuki Yamatoya (大和屋 暁 Yamatoya Akatsuki?), born 27 July 1972, is a Japanese screenplay writer from Tokyo, he is famous for his participation in different superhero series, also a lyricist, and loves horse racing.

Yamatoya started writing scripts for anime ever since 1997. He studied under his father Atsushi Yamatoya's apprentice Yoshio Urasawa, he is extremely active in writing anime scripts, he was one of the main organizers of the anime series Gintama. Later in 2005, he started writing scripts for tokusatsus such as Mahō Sentai Magiranger, he even wrote lyrics for some songs within that tokusatsu.

He joined Detective Conan by writing comedy stories first, which is similar to his teacher Urasawa's style. Nevertheless, he is now writing honkaku ha (本格派) mysteries, which is basically orthodox mystery. On the 10th of July, he posted an article on his personal horse racing blog[1], declearing that he was responsible for writing the mystery tour for 2023.
