To resolve this issue and provide a better overview of the information to the audiences, TMS Entertainment decided to promote a special type of movie named Compilation Movies, sometimes also referred to as Recap Movies. Most of the content from the compilation movies will entail those episodes already broadcast on television, whereby they are re-compiled and re-edited together, with a time duration of approximately a normal movie[N 1]. Normally, people would treat them as pre-movie "trailers".
The first compilation movie released was The Scarlet Alibi, on the 11th of February, 2021. Initially, it was only planned to exclusively air for three weeks; however, due to the high opinions from the audiences, the screening time was extended to after the 5th of March of the same year. It was later collected within the premium DVD/Blu-Ray of the relative movie.

The video production is done by Gal Enterprise Inc., a company that specialises in CG animation; precisely, the director of all the recap movies, Shunsuke Ishihara, is also affiliated with said company.
Most of these compilations related to the annual movie release would be scheduled for air in theatres; notwithstanding that, there was an exception in 2022, namely, the year in which Movie 25 aired. The compilation was produced by the exact same staff yet was made into a TV Special and broadcast in TV stations with the title of Love Story at Police Headquarters ~Wedding Eve~. Moreover, starting 2023, the production was fully handled by the TMS 7th studio: 7STUDIO (第7スタジオ)[N 3]. This subsidiary was led by Keiichi Ishiyama (from V1 Studio)[N 4], who served as chief producer and producer in these movies.
New scenes are added at the end of each compilation movie, which would require some key animators and animation directors to work on them. However, in The Story of Ai Haibara ~Black Iron Mystery Train~, due to the excessive animation failure that occurred during the original production in the Mytsery Train arc, the scene was being rectified when the recap movie released; analogue celluloid masters would also undergo remaster. In Detective Conan vs. Kid the Phantom Thief, the size key animation group increased substantially since the recap movie production team decided to redraw some key frames found in ancient episodes with the current character design.
Notably, starting in 2024, the recap movie included a specific theme song inserted during the end credits of the film.
