Yui Uehara (上原 由衣 Uehara Yui ) is a character in the manga and anime franchise Detective Conan.
Background
Yui Uehara and Kansuke Yamato grew up together in a village in the Nagano prefecture. One day, the popular village policeman and kyujitsu master Kuroto Kai died under mysterious circimstances, prompting Yui and Kansuke, who had joined the police force following his example, to investigate the case. When Kansuke was critically injured in an unrelated case (thus gaining him his damaged leg and his trademark scarred eye), Yui belived him dead and decided to carry on the investigation by herself, quitting the police force and marrying into one of the families she suspected of having murdered Kai. Despite her many years in the household, the case was resolved only some years later, when another string of murders occurred and Conan and Heiji were called up to solve them.[1] Soon after the resolution of the case, Uehara rejoined the police force.[2]
Personality
Uehara, just like her partner, Yamato, is very aware of Conan's intelligence, telling Conan about how Yamato belives that he is more intelligent than Kogoro Mouri, sneakily trying to get Conan involved in investigating the crime. This is because of the assistance Conan provided, along with Heiji Hattori, in the first case that involved the two.[3]
Relationship analysis
- Kansuke Yamato and Yui Uehara
Yamato cares very deeply for his subordinate and childhood friend Uehara. He was upset over her leaving the force and tried to distance himself from her,[4] but had no problem allowing her back on the force.[5] Uehara in return cares for him and even seems to have feeling for him.[5][6] affectionatley referring to him as Kan-chan, which he always scolds her for doing.[7]
