She found out that the fire that killed her parents years ago was started by Mitsuaki Nagato, with Hideomi Nagato as a reluctant co-conspirator. She tricks Mitsuaki by luring him with a plan to murder Chairman Nagato, since she knew that Mitsuaki coveted the Chairman's position and sooner or later would try to kill his father in law, only to push him off the balcony to his death. The Hideomi that appeared to throughout the episode were actually either Mitsuaki or Miyuki in disguise, as the real Hideomi had killed himself the day before and left behind a suicide note revealing the truth of the fire; he proves it via having Heiji show up wearing similar bandages. The final proof comes from them exhibiting Miyuki's prized fountain pen, which now has its tip bent; this is because, when Miyuki tried to push Mitsuaki off the balcony, he actually held on her arm and she used the pen to stab him on the hand so he wouldn't pull her with him. |

+ | When everything is revealed, Miyuki confesses and says that she wanted to kill Mitsuaki, but that even with all of this she loved Hideomi because he saved her life no matter what. She adds that since she knew Hideomi was dead from before, and that he had commited suicide out of despair because Miyuki loved him even after how he contributed to the death of her family, she had even more reason to kill Mitsuaki for ruining both of their lives.

+ | Then, Miyuki tries to commit suicide with a firelighter and gasoline that she had hidden inside a geyser, intending to join her beloved Hideomi in death... but fails because Conan, having discovered the gasoline earlier, replaced it. Miyuki has a screaming breakdown, crying and shouting about how she wants her fire to burn like Hideomi's did. Chairman Nagato talks Miyuki out of suicide by revealing that he knew her mother, mentioning that the pen she always carried with her was actually a gift he gave to her mother when they were children. Conan later explains to Heiji that Miyuki's mother was actually Chairman Nagato's first crush.

+ | When everything is resolved, Heiji asks Conan why didn't he let Miyuki kill herself like she wished. Conan says that's because a detective who doesn't stop such a situation is not better than a murderer, and then recalls the ''Moonlight Sonata'' case and how he couldn't stop Seiji Asou from joining his family in death.
