Apotoxin or Apoptoxin?
Flipping through Volume 24 of the English translation by Viz after seeing a query on Tumblr I discovered that the translation decided to use "Apotoxin" in Anita's (Haibara's) explanation of its connection to apoptosis. Should we switch our spellings back to "Apotoxin" instead? --Skyechan (talk) 05:38, 14 August 2014 (CEST)
- I prefer Apoptoxin, although I don't really have a strong opinion on the matter because it's a made up word in a foreign language. The extra p lends itself to the usual Japanese tendency to smash two English words together to make a new one: Apopto + toxin. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 09:22, 14 August 2014 (CEST)
The drug's nickname
Looking at the raw of volume 24, I see that the nickname for APTX 4869 is written as 出来損(な)いの名探偵. "Good-for-nothing (Great) Detective" seems to be a more accurate translation of this term. "Prototype/Incomplete Detective" (試作段階の名探偵) is the meaning of the name "Sherrinford" as Conan explained to Ai. What do you guys think? --DevlinShad (talk) 15:56, 21 February 2017 (CET)
