Naoko Kobuko was murdered by '''Yotaro Sayama''', and the motive was her demand for restitution against Sayama for inadvertently selling her the fake book. The monetary recompensation, however, was not enough for her; she chose to humiliate him in any way she could think of, by forcing him to attend to her petty needs despite his arm injury and continually posting public apologies for his mishap. This finally pushed him beyond the limits of frustration, and when he saw the chance to rid himself of her, he killed her, inadvertently also causing Nine to escape from his cage. Sayama's alibi through his telephone call with Mrs. Kobuko was established because he kept walking towards her home while maintaining his conversation with her, instead of staying at the station where he received her call. Trivia

    • A slight production mistake occurs in the second part of the episode, right after Ai and Ayumi have presented themselves as Emi Yahagi's witnesses. When Kogoro is seen chuckling at Megure's perplexity, the fluttering of Nine's wings can still be heard, but at the same time the myna's feet are already resting on the top of Kogoro's head.
