Conan believes that Kaitou Kid has nothing to do with the case. Conan figures out the trick thanks to Takagi and reveals the painting was never stolen. He reveals the culprit set this up for murder and tried to blame it on Kaitou Kid. Afterward the culprit iq arrested. Later on Conan meets Kaitou Kid; he reveals he was in disguise to clear his name, who then escapes out the window.

A monk claims to see a dead woman's body, but when the police arrives, the body vanishes. The head monk believes that he is hallucinating due to the thought of his dead mother. Conan and Heiji investigate and find out the truth. Was everything the monk saw just an illusion, or is there more to it? Following this case, Heiji reveals to Conan that he has been invited for a Detective Koushien, with the best high school detectiveq from the North, South, East and West of Japan. Heiji was invited to represent the West, and though Kudo was originally the choice for the East, Hakuba makes another appearance representing the East. Later, one of the detectives are murdered and the island is entirely cut from the rest of the world. Conan manages to solve the case and help comes due to Heiji.

Conan and Heiji work together for the big reveal of the murderer's ingenuous method. Robert is the murderer, driven by rage and hatred towards those who didn't stop the girl he loved from committing suicide. Conan along with Heiji, Ran, and Mouri visit the Isle of Mermaids looking for Saori, who had sent a letter to Heiji and Mouri asking them to save her from being killed by a mermaid, but when they try to look for her she has been reported missing. Every year on this island a festival is held were 3 locals win the Dungong Arrow that is said to wield immortality to its carrier. The festival is brought to a disastrous end when one of the winners is found dead hanging down the waterfall. Conan and Heiji investigate the area and history of Mermaids Grave, a forest on mermaid island. They learn that an elder who is over 130 years old is a holder of the arrow and the head of the festival. While investigating two more murders occur. Conan reveals to Heiji he knows who the murderer is and to meet him later, but later he and Kazuha fall off a cliff. Conan reveals that the murderer is the elder. He reveals that the elder were people who dressed up as her to continue the story of the arrow. Heiji and Kazuha arrive at the house in time to confirm the story. The culprit reveals that her mother was the previous elder who were killed by the three victims. She continued the elder story for her mother, but finds out the whole town knew she was the elder and that her mother was the mermaid's corpse. All the town people bow their heads and apologize for not telling her sooner as she cries due to her guilt. | |||||||||||

Heiji relives a case from the past when he tells Conan about a detective he met a few years ago on a ski trip while they were in middle school. Heiji claims that the detective is better than Shinichi. However, the detective turns out to be no other than Shinichi. In he past, a man is shot dead while on a ski lift. However, it would've been impossible to shoot him while in front or behind him. Shinichi and Heiji figure it out at the same time due to the hint from their father. They solve the case at the same time without meeting each other.

Akai immediately recognizes Ran from the New York case, wondering why whenever he sees her, she is crying. Later, Conan heads to Agasa's home to see the floppy, which seems like a normal diary at first. However, after highlighting suspiciously blank portions of the floppy, Conan and Agasa discover that the man indeed has ties to the Black Organizatiopn. Agasa and Conan both head to the man's house in Gunma to investigate, and discover that it is bugged in numerous places. Vodka calls the house, leaving a message asking for the program that the man was making, and decides to come out prompty. Conan is able to convince him to meet him at a certain place in a few hours, to deliver the program. Agasa and Conan escape, but their tire is flat, and they are picked up by two people in a fancy car. Conan suspiciously notices that the driver has no idea how to operate the car. The car is stopped by a road block set up by Detective Yamamura who says that he is looking for two bank robbers and kidnappers, whom he shot in a case a few hours before. Conan finally realizes who the people are. After more driving, Conan confronts the two criminals. The criminals try to escape, but Conan is able to capture them in time. He then boldly tries to meet with Gin and Vodka at the place, and hides in a locker, placing a tracker on Vodka's shoe. Gin discovers this, and prompty destroys it. Conan passes out in the locker, only to be woken up by Haibara later that morning.
