While having dinner, Ran mentions that Teitan High School has been haunted by a ghost recently and asks Kogoro to investigate. Kogoro says that it must be a prank and refuses to go, but Conan is willing to find out what is going on. So one day after school, Conan heads back to his old school with the company of Ran and Sonoko. They meet some of Conan's former classmates, after which he senses a profound nostalgia and becomes frustrated that he has not been able to find an antidote to APTX4869 and allowed Vermouth to escape in their last confrontation. He is having some further thoughts about Vermouth when Dr. Araide appears before him and his company. Conan is horrified until Araide mouths in his ears that he is the real Tomoaki Araide, that he has returned to Japan because the FBI had already revealed Vermouth's fake identity and his maid Hikaru and grandmother could not adapt to the life in the U.S.. He then joins Conan in their ghost investigation.

| While having dinner, Ran mentions that Teitan High School has been haunted by a ghost recently and asks Kogoro to investigate. Sonoko shows the rest of the investigators around the school and points out (and overdramatizes) three occasions of haunting, all related to a deceased former student called Hideaki Hosaka. Conan points out that the water below the stairs might have accumulated simply because the window nearby was accidentally kept open while it was raining. Ran seems convinced of this and of explanations offered by Tsukamoto and no longer believes that the ghost exists, but Sonoko is furious at Conan for reducing her overdramatized story to such a simple and boring explanation.
