Meeting with Vodka
File 383 - The New Weapon!
The car speeds through the barren, snowy streets of Kenbashi as the two thieves discuss where to dispose of Conan and Agasa. The woman asks why Conan didn't report them to [Inspector Yamamura]], to which Conan responds it would've delayed his meeting (with Vodka). Noticing that he's close enough to his destination, Conan uses his Stun-Gun Wristwatch to knock out the driver before pulling the gear shift to halt the car. After deducing the woman's gun is fake, he uses his Anywhere Ball Dispensing Belt to produce a giant ball in the backseat, immobilizing the woman. With the two thieves dispatched, Conan instructs Agasa to call the police while he heads to meet the Black Organization.
Vodka is seen exiting his car, ordering his men to secure the area. He heads down to coin locker 0032 but sees no one. Annoyed, he pops a cigarette in his mouth but then notices Itakura's check stuck to the coin locker. He opens the locker and sees the software disk, its edges secured with tape. He spits out his cigarette, takes off his glove, and begins to remove the tape while an ecstatic Conan eagerly watches. Suddenly, a gun pressed up against the back of Vodka's head; it's Gin. He's displeased that Vodka bent the schedule in Itakura's favor and even failed to kill him after the exchange. Vodka explains the situation and hands his superior the disk. Gin immediately sees through the tricks, stating that the disk was taped shut to harvest Vodka's fingerprints. He additionally deduces that someone intended to take Vodka's discarded cigarette and identify his blood type. And most of all, Gin uncovers a Transmitter stuck inside the disk.
Gin further deduces that it wasn't Itakura who communicated with Vodka, as people with heart disease are weak to sudden temperature changes and wouldn't travel to the Gunma snow mountains. He believes Itakura must've hired someone, but based on the slight warmth of the disk cartridge, the person who placed the disk must still be near. Conan panics as the two agents close in on him, leaving him with no choice but to hide in a coin locker. The two men turn the corner but find no one. Vodka suggests they look elsewhere, but Gin begins to open coin lockers; however, he soon stops after considering that a grown man can't fit in such a place.
As Conan debates what to do next, he slowly loses consciousness due to the lack of oxygen. He wakes up to see his coin locker creak open, but to his surprise, it's Haibara on the other end. She explains she found him using the spare pair of Criminal Tracking Glasses. Wasting no time, Conan speeds out of the station and scans the crowded city-scape, realizing hours have passed. While he explains his actions to Haibara, Akai Shuichi passes the two. He intently examines Haibara while listening to the news of Itakura's death. By the time Haibara turns to look, Akai has already disappeared into the crowd.

File 384 - The Unexpected Treasure
Ayumi stands mesmerized by the beautiful Hina dolls lining the storefront. Mitsuhiko shares the many misfortunes faced by one of Ayumi's Hina dolls, leading him and Genta to believe they're cursed. Ayumi feigns sadness before revealing she knows someone who'll let her decorate the seven-tier set. Additionally, she'll get the set if she manages to decorate the set correctly without looking at any reference material. Seen as they're near their apartment, Ayumi suggests they visit.
The Detective Boys visit Setsuko Kanno and her mother-in-law, Yayoi Kanno—Ayumi's associates. The Detective Boys—led by Ayumi—proceed to decorate the seven tiers, Genta unamused by the task. Conan proves knowledgeable about the dolls, despite being a boy. He explains that Ran used to enlist his help in decorating when they were kids.
Haibara shares that this is her first time touching Hina dolls, as she was whisked to the United States when she was young. Her sister, Akemi, apparently owned dolls but sealed them away after their parents passed. Conan then asks how her parents died. She says they were scientists and the organization claimed they died in a lab accident. While her mother isn't well known, her father, Atsushi Miyano, was infamous as a man kicked out of the science world: labeled a "Mad Scientist." Conan, spooked, demands Haibara tell him what kind of drug they're making. Haibara turns to him with a menacing look, stating, "A drug that'll resurrect the dead." Seeing Conan express a mix of shock and fear, Haibara assures him that the drug she was making was different, "a silly drug which is worthless to the vast majority of those on earth... just like Hina dolls—only having value to little girls in this small country."
Ayumi passes the Yayoi's test and get's the keep the Hina dolls. As the boys pack up, two men approach the residence: Mizutaka Tsumagari, a neighbor, and Yoshiharu Mie, an appraiser. Tsumagari wishes to buy the hanging scroll beside the Hina set, which he claims is worth twenty million yen. Mie further states that the scroll isn't preserved properly and loses value by the day. However, Yayoi remains adamant about not selling the scroll. The two men decide to return later and consult Setsuko's husband. Setsuko turns to Ayumi, suggesting she stay here for the holiday. Ayumi agrees, stating that she wishes to take another picture later.
Setsuko realizes that she has business to attend to, so Ayumi volunteers the boys to go grocery shopping. On their way back, the boys run into Mie, who states he came to retrieve his phone, which he left in the living room. The group opens the door to see the house has been ransacked, with Yayoi nowhere to be found. Ayumi heads to the room with the Hina set, and the set remains untouched, to her relief. However, the hanging scroll is missing.
File 385 - Ayumi's Worry
Mitsuhiko goes to call the police but sees Yayoi enter. She had gone to the store to get sugar. Setsuko, who had forgotten her wallet, also returns, shrieking when she sees her ransacked living room. Tsumagari also soon arrives, worried about the scream. Inspector Momose soon arrives to investigate the scene. He determines that because Yayoi left at 15:30 and the Detective Boys returned at 15:40, the apartment was vacant for a ten-minute window. Momose also believes the thief entered through the balcony, but Conan states that because a FAX machine was printing documents throughout the ten-minute window, the thief wouldn't get a sense of when the apartment was empty. Additionally, if the hanging scroll were the thief's target, they wouldn't have ransacked the whole house. Finally, the only reason someone would steal the scroll is that they know the value, which only a select few people do.
Though the obvious suspects are Tsumagari and Mie, Setsuko and Yayoi could also benefit from insurance claims. With all four individuals lacking alibis and having motives, the case becomes a conundrum. However, Conan states the key lies in the Hina doll room. The group goes there to see several of the dolls' positions altered. Mitsuhiko points to Tsumagari as he doesn't know the correct positions of the dolls, but Conan disagrees. Only two of the four suspects are capable of the crime, but he doesn't know why the thief repositioned the dolls. Ayumi notices that the sun will set soon, deeply upsetting her. She encourages Conan to solve the case, mentioning "the stairs." Her words spark something in Conan's mind, and he claims to have solved the case. Ecstatic, Ayumi goes to alert the police.
File 386 - Stairs in the Setting Sun
After notifying Momose about the solved case, Ayumi goes to check the sunset. Haibara sees her and compliments her on the idea. As Ayumi runs back, Haibara gazes at the sinking blood-red beauty, wondering how many more times she'll get to see it.
Momose arrives at the Hina doll room, where Conan explains that if the Hina set were hit with such force that the top two dolls fell over, the other dolls would've also collapsed. The perpetrator must know the proper decoration method because only two dolls are misplaced. In addition, the positioning of the top two dolls wasn't exactly wrong either, as the order of dolls the thief presented was the original pre-Meiji era order—later switched after western influence.
Yayoi offers to pack the Hina dolls, but Ayumi refuses, as she accepts Yayoi's philosophy of guardians taking damage to save their masters. She vows to reuse her old family Hina dolls no matter how damaged they may be. With the case solved, Ayumi goes to take her photograph by the stairs. She instructs everyone where to sit and to face the sunset. As Setsuko goes to take the picture, she notices that the frame looks like a recreation of the Hina dolls. Soon, a fight breaks out over who gets to represent which doll, and a very chaotic photo is taken.
