Missing Ring Case
File 404 - Be on Guard on a Sweet Date!
Ninzaburo Shiratori and his gang of Miwako Sato fans subject Wataru Takagi to a series of fiery interrogations. They believe Takagi is lying about attending an alumni gathering, as one of the officers found a ticket to a baseball game stuffed in Takagi's desk. Takagi's mental fortitude is pushed to the limit as his colleagues close around him.
A few days later, at Tropical Marine Land, Takagi fills in Sato about his interrogations but promises he told them nothing about their date. Though Sato is skeptical, Takagi reassures her he purposefully placed the baseball ticket on his desk to throw the investigators off their scent. Suddenly, Takagi feels like he's being watched. In the bushes, two police officers surreptitiously report the couple's actions to a truck parked outside the amusement park. Inside, Shiratori directs his subordinates as he strengthens his resolve to disrupt their date.
Seeing that Sato is in an unusually good mood, Shiratori directs two undercover officers to walk by the couple while loudly badmouthing the police. The plan works as Sato storms off to the bathroom. In his date's absence, Takagi pulls out a ring that he intends to present to Sato. The action sends most of the police force into a panic, but Shiratori calms everyone down, claiming he's got it covered. As Sato returns, the Detective Boys, along with Professor Agasa, shock Takagi with their appearance. They state that Inspector Shiratori had gifted them Tropical Land tickets as an expression of gratitude for their frequent corporation and that the Marine Land mascot, Maririn, had led them here for a photo but is now strangely missing. The mascot is shown scurrying away and reveals itself to also be an officer. He informs Shiratori of the situation, prompting the Inspector to call Agasa. Shiratori convinces Agasa to leave the kids with Takagi and Sato while he returns home and helps review a FAX document about a recent case. With their guardian gone, the Detective Boys have no choice but to join Takagi and Sato. Furthermore, Takagi's hope for Kogoro Mouri and Ran to arrive and chaperone the kids is squashed after learning the two are at a baseball game.
With the two's date compromised, Shiratori takes a well-deserved nap. Back at the police headquarters, Inspector Megure asks Kazunobu Chiba why Shiratori is leading thirty officers on a drug bust. Chiba replies they have reliable intel pointing to the notorious drug dealer, Asakichi Yakura, carrying out his next transaction at Tropical Marine Land. Takagi is seen sitting on a park bench, disappointed. Sato approaches him with a smile, saying, "think of it as a rehearsal for when we bring our own kids here." Takagi, justifiably flustered, takes the opportunity to give her a ring. Shiratori's team panics, but Takagi pulls out a bag instead. Opening the bag, Sato discovers a kilogram of heroin. Takagi believes he accidentally switched bags with someone during the 5000 leagues under the sea ride. Sato heads to the ride to see if anyone is looking for their lost bag, but the desk lady says no such customer has appeared. Since one kilogram of heroin can be worth up to sixty million yen (~600,000 dollars), the owner must still be searching for his package in the park.
File 405 - Misguided Massive Hunt
Sato deduces the bag's owner is a drug mule who intends to have a transaction with Asakichi Yakura. The two officers check the bag's contents, Sato asking if there are any blood stains on it, but only find brand new sports towels and a handkerchief dirtied by sweat. They ponder how to track the mule down when Conan points to the right bag strap. The punch hole with the prong attached to it appears elongated, meaning the mule must carry his bag on his left shoulder—making him left-handed. Their prime suspect is now a left-handed person who frequently engages in physical activity. That's when Ayumi remembers the photo taken by the on-ride camera, leading the group to revisit the 5000 leagues ride to see if anyone who fits the description rode with them. Before they leave, Sato hands the reception ladies the bag, telling them to call her if someone comes to retrieve it. As the group runs off, three disguised officers approach the receptionists. After showing their badges, they ask the lady what Sato was talking about. She says they were suspiciously talking about "Blood stains (Kekkon {血痕})" and "Heroin (Heroin {ヘロイン})," but the officers confuse the words for "Marriage (Kekkon {結婚})" and "Wedding Reception (Hirouen {披露宴}." Alarmed, they call Shiratori, who deduces that Takagi had likely switched bags with someone else, and their primary objective now is to retrieve his bag and stop the ring from getting into Sato's hands.
The group reviews the photograph and identifies four suspects and a child. Mitsuhiko recalls that the person holding onto Genta does golf as he was practicing his swing while waiting in line. Similarly, the man sitting next to the child probably does baseball because he was practicing throwing. Conan believes the tanned man to be a football player as the tan lines on his feet are shaped like shin guards would go. Finally, Haibara thinks the tanned woman is a swimmer as she had a centimeter-long line of untanned skin, likely from her goggles. Genta explains he got blue ink on his shirt after the man grabbed him, leading Conan to believe he wrote on one of the ride surveys using the ballpoint pen. The group inspects his sheet, and because the writing is smeared to the left, Conan deduces the man is left-handed. Sato instructs the park staff to call Noboru Takagi's name on the loudspeaker.
Because Takagi shares the same last name with the man, the police believe their searching for a family member, further corroborating their theory that the two intend to hold their wedding ceremony at the park. Noboru Takagi arrives, but he does not have Wataru Takagi's bag. He reveals himself as the young boy's father, removing himself from the suspect list. While the group wonders what to do next, Ayumi notices three talented high school athletes. Seeing them, Conan is reminded of something. He sniffs the dirty handkerchief, remarking, "it's the same smell as before." His friends ask him what he came up with, and the child detective replies, "there's one thing an athlete should never do."
File 406 - Misguided but Successful Arrest
Conan highlights how high school athletes hold their bags, especially Yousuke Got, the prodigy baseball player. Haibara notes that despite being left-handed, he carries his bag on his right shoulder to protect his throwing arm. Thus, the right-handed baseball player could still be the mule since, logically, he'd carry his backpack on his left shoulder. Additionally, Conan states the handkerchief smells like glove oil, practically sealing the mule's identity as the baseball player. The Detective Boys wonder how they'll find the man, but Conan recommends they wait near the baseball game in the park arcade.
Lo and behold, the baseball player arrives. Takagi tries to confront the man, but Sato insists they stalk him and let him lead the way to Yakura. Soon after, the police squad led by Shiratori finds the group and decides to follow them. The three factions converge in the stands of a performance attraction. Both Sato and the police squad notice Yakura arrive and sit beside the baseball player. Seeing the transaction, Sato springs into action and attempts to arrest Yakura, but the latter reveals he possesses a gun. Yakura uses the cover of the ensuing firework show to make his escape. Takagi, Sato, the Detective Boys, and the entire Shiratori police squad give chase. While in pursuit, Sato notices something and stops in her tracks, falling to her knees. Nevertheless, Takagi and Conan continue to run as they see Yakura headed for a ferry, likely intending to hijack it. Conan uses his Anywhere Ball Dispensing Belt and Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes to incapacitate Yakura, causing both the drug dealer and Takagi's ring to flail off the guard rail. Takagi tackles Yakura into the sea but can do nothing to stop his ring from sinking into the dark abyss.
Upon returning to land, Shiratori and his police squad congratulate his catch, and seen as his ring is lost, they invite him for drinks after. As his colleagues depart with Yakura, Takagi checks up on Sato, who's still in a dejected state. Takagi realizes Sato must've seen fireworks appear behind the Ferris wheel, reminding her of Jinpei Matsuda's death.[1] Takagi apologizes to Sato amongst the cries of disappointment from the Detective Boys, but Sato simply asks for him to "never leave her side." Takagi gladly accepts her promise as the two hold hands. Meanwhile, Agasa still waits for Shiratori to send him the FAX report.
