Title Translation
Some potential title translations into English: 黒鉄の魚影, when broken down, becomes the following: 黒鉄 (Kurogane): Black-Iron, another name for iron, and called as such because of its dark nature. Often used in reference to weaponry, such as Katanas or Weapons. Yaiba's last name, 鉄, is Iron, but read as Kurogane. の (no): a connector, in this case "made of," and 魚影 (Gyoei, read as Submarine): Literally fish shadow or shadow of fish, but all Conan movies do a quirky reading of kanji in the title, and this is actually "submarine".
So when combined, the direct result can be something like "The Submarine of Black Iron". However, some other translations could be "The Black-Ironclad Submarine", and "The Dark Ironclad Submarine". However, following with "Strategy Above the Depths" and using a non-direct translation (the Japanese title for the movie lit. translates to Strategy above the Horizon), something more dramatic can be made like "The Submarine from the Shadows" or "The Hidden Submarine" but these are pretty far from the actual translation.
I'm not sure which of these sounds the best, but the feel of the title, at least to me, is an ominous, black, submarine. I didn't wanna be too obnoxious and slap my own translation onto a movie title but wanted to throw some ideas out. Until the official translation comes out, it's all up in the air but hopefully, it'll be a good title! :) -Yuchi (talk)
