Yutaka Abe (阿部 ゆたか Abe Yutaka ) was born on February 24th in Shinjo, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. He currently lives in Tokyo.[1]
History
Yutaka Abe began working on manga in 1979 for Hitomi and then at Nakayoshi (publishers of Sailor Moon, Goldfish Warning!, etc.) in 1981, before leaving in 1985 to create his own works.[2]
During their time at Nihon University in the eighties, at the Ekoda Campus (Fine Arts, Nerima Ward), Yutaka Abe was Gosho Aoyama's senior and both were members of the local manga club, the Nekketsu Manga Konjō-kai. During this time, Aoyama assisted Abe in the creation of 100% Tantei Monogatari. Aoyama also made some artworks for fanzines published by Abe, like Bishōjo Shōkōgun[3] and Pori Pori 3 - Peppermint Milk Special.[4] Both also worked on at least two amateur animations, one of them being a promo clip for 100% Tantei Monogatari and another a commercial for unknown means, which can't be rereleased currently since they used unlicensed music as background tracks, according to Abe himself.[5][6]
Nowadays, Yutaka Abe in turn is one of Aoyama's assistants and has done work for the Detective Conan Special series alongside Denjiro Maru. He has also drawn illustrations for many Detective Conan novels.
Other works
- 100% Tantei Monogatari

- High Step Jun
- Houkago no Labyrinth
- Kuma-chan series
- Natsu no Orgel

- Triangle High School
Cameos in Gosho Aoyama's works
Yutaka Abe's alter ego and characters named after him appear in the manga made by Gosho Aoyama now and then. He's one of the people (next to Aoyama himself and some others of his assistants) tied to a giant log in the alternate dimension in WALK MAN. He also appears with some of the other assistants in the form of an animal, looking like a mouse or a rat, in Nonchalant Lupin. In Yaiba, he is one of the people (again, next to Aoyama and a couple of other assistants) in the thought spot by Yaiba Kurogane, Sayaka Mine and Gerozaimon Geroda, when the latter proposes to disguise the men of Japan as women to trick Kaguya. The culprit Yutaka Abe from the "Akaoni Village Fire Festival Murder Case" (Manga: 10-12, Anime: 38) is named after him.
