Conan set up a trap, allowing him to reveal to Kogoro, Ran, and the local inspectors that the culprit is Taro Hayashi. Hayashi had given himself away when he had mentioned that the file that was missing in the camera was a video when no had told him so. When meant the only ones who knew this are Conan, Kogoro, Ran, the police, and the culprit himself.

One more piece of evidence that Aoki left behind was his painting, in the painting is what appears to be a house and an angel descending into heaven. However the true painting in reality is revealed when the painting is turned upside down, portraying Hayashi throwing Fuji's body into the ocean from his boat.

Hayashi killed Nagisa Fujii with his car by accident. Aoki had inadvertently captured on his camera, the exact moment when Hayashi threw Fujii's body into the sea. He had noticed this when he was reviewing the video he had taken that night for his painting. After that he had tried to persuade Hayashi to turn himself in, but out of fear Hayashi killed him.
