Amanda Hughes (アマンダ・ヒューズ Amanda Hyūzu ) is a character in the manga and anime franchise Detective Conan.

Background
Amanda Hughes was an American VIP in contact with the FBI and CIA. She was so powerful in the United States that the Black Organization tried to threaten her seventeen years ago. She was a contender to be the next president of the US. She had a close bodyguard, Rachel Asaka, who was as important as a daughter for her. She was also a big fan of Kohji Haneda, who met that fateful night, and a friend of Tsutomu Akai. About sixty-seven years ago, when he was only a child, she met Rum as a guest at Renya Karasuma's birthday party. Fifty years later, instead of become part of their family, she sacrificed herself to save her adoptive daughter and swallowed his drug developed by the organization, which led to her death. She left a dying message to warn about his snake-like eye's special ability.

She was an intelligent, confident, and quick-witted woman. During the confrontation with Rum and his subordinates, she appeared self-confident. She learned Japanese.

Before her death 17 years ago, Amanda was shown as an old lady with white hair and black eyes. She wore formal clothing the few times she was shown.
