James Black (ジェイムズ・ブラック Jeimuzu Burakku) is a character in the manga and anime franchise Detective Conan. A high ranking agent in the FBI, Black first meets Conan, the Detective Boys, and Dr. Agasa because they confuse him for a famous magician, while Black, who is an American, was visiting Japan. In fact, he is kidnapped because of this. It is thanks to Conan and the Tokyo police that Black is safely rescued from a dangerous hostage situation. Conan doesn't meet up with him again until he and Jodie Starling travel in Black's car, and Jodie reminds Conan that he had met him before. James Black, while Jodie's superior, often lets her and Shuichi Akai take command, although he has had plans himself, including figuring out a way to safely transfer Hidemi Hondou to another hospital. Black, like Starling, is deeply saddened when he learns of Akai's death, considering it a painful blow on not only the FBI, but a personal level as well.
