Part 1
Kogoro, Ran, and Conan go to Shirahama on a vacation they won, and there meet a group of college students and introduced themselves as Maki Shinjou, Tatsuhiko Yura, Madoka Mitsui, Kanako Miyahara, and Kouta Fuji. They are all in the same art club, but don't seem to get along well. When Madoka is drawing, she finds the body of one of her fellow students, Maki, stabbed in the heart.

Because three out four suspects each has an airtight alibi during the time of the murder: Yura was at Shirahama, Kanaka was at Engetsuto, and Fuji was at Adventure World, the suspicion falls on Madoka who was the first discoverer.
