Missing Ring Case

File 404 - Be on Guard on a Sweet Date!

Shiratori directs the operation intent on sabotaging Takagi's date with Sato.

Ninzaburo Shiratori and his gang of Miwako Sato fans subject Wataru Takagi to a series of fiery interrogations. They believe Takagi is lying about attending an alumni gathering, as one of the officers found a ticket to a baseball game stuffed in Takagi's desk. Takagi's mental fortitude is pushed to the limit as his colleagues close around him.
A few days later, at Tropical Marine Land, Takagi fills in Sato about his interrogations but promises he told them nothing about their date. Though Sato is skeptical, Takagi reassures her he purposefully placed the baseball ticket on his desk to throw the investigators off their scent. Suddenly, Takagi feels like he's being watched. In the bushes, two police officers surreptitiously report the couple's actions to a truck parked outside the amusement park. Inside, Shiratori directs his subordinates as he strengthens his resolve to disrupt their date.

Seeing that Sato is in an unusually good mood, Shiratori directs two undercover officers to walk by the couple while loudly badmouthing the police. The plan works as Sato storms off to the bathroom. In his date's absence, Takagi pulls out a ring that he intends to present to Sato. The action sends most of the police force into a panic, but Shiratori calms everyone down, claiming he's got it covered. As Sato returns, the Detective Boys, along with Professor Agasa, shock Takagi with their appearance. They state that Inspector Shiratori had gifted them Tropical Land tickets as an expression of gratitude for their frequent corporation and that the Marine Land mascot, Maririn, had led them here for a photo but is now strangely missing. The mascot is shown scurrying away and reveals itself to also be an officer. He informs Shiratori of the situation, prompting the Inspector to call Agasa. Shiratori convinces Agasa to leave the kids with Takagi and Sato while he returns home and helps review a FAX document about a recent case. With their guardian gone, the Detective Boys have no choice but to join Takagi and Sato. Furthermore, Takagi's hope for Kogoro Mouri and Ran to arrive and chaperone the kids is squashed after learning the two are at a baseball game.

Romantic tensions brew between the two police sergeants.

With the two's date compromised, Shiratori takes a well-deserved nap. Back at the police headquarters, Inspector Megure asks Kazunobu Chiba why Shiratori is leading thirty officers on a drug bust. Chiba replies they have reliable intel pointing to the notorious drug dealer, Asakichi Yakura, carrying out his next transaction at Tropical Marine Land. Takagi is seen sitting on a park bench, disappointed. Sato approaches him with a smile, saying, "think of it as a rehearsal for when we bring our own kids here." Takagi, justifiably flustered, takes the opportunity to give her a ring. Shiratori's team panics, but Takagi pulls out a bag instead. Opening the bag, Sato discovers a kilogram of illegal drugs. Takagi believes he accidentally switched bags with someone during the 5000 leagues under the sea ride. Sato heads to the ride to see if anyone is looking for their lost bag, but the desk lady says no such customer has appeared. Since one kilogram of drugs can be worth up to sixty million yen (~600,000 dollars), the owner must still be searching for his package in the park.
