Haruo Ogawara (大河原 晴男 Ōgawara Haruo?) is a Japanese animation director. He was mainly active during the first seasons of Detective Conan, specifically in 1996-1997. He is affiliated with P.R.A (ピー・アール・エー).

Works in Detective Conan

Ogawara began to participate in the production of the Detective Conan anime ever since 1996, starting with the fourth episode The Coded Map of the City Case, after that, he started to serve as an animation director regularly.

A typical Conan by Ogawara.

He is somewhat well-known among the Detective Conan fandom owing to the unsteady drawings he caused in the early anime. The characters by him do not follow the character design - square faces. In the beginning he performed quite decently, but afterwards, some frames collapsed, and he received some criticism. Incidentally, he collaborated with Hirohito Ochi quite well in the Library Murder Case, and created a horror atmosphere for that episode.

During the first-half of 1997, after doing the animation work of The Mystery Weapon Murder Case, he temporarily quit the anime production. Until 2009, he returned to the anime production team and served as animation director for The Hand That Plays in Dissonance; he ceased getting involved with the series thereafter. In addition, during the 1996-1997 period, in all of the episodes where Ogawara was the animation director, Hirohito Ochi was in charge of the episode direction (except for episode 53).
