Masahito Yoshioka (吉岡 昌仁 Yoshioka Masahito , 1959 - January 14, 2016) is a Japanese television producer from TMS Entertainment. He was a producer at the company's planning headquarters and also served as a visiting professor at Digital Hollywood University[1].
Yoshioka is one of the notable producers in the Detective Conan anime. He was the producer from episodes 1 to 332 and the chief producer from episodes 333 to 626, representing TMS; along with Michihiko Suwa from the Yomiuri TV at the same time. In 2011, Keiichi Ishiyama took over the TMS chief producer role after Yoshioka quit the production. Furthermore, he was also the producer of the first episode of Magic Kaito: Kid the Phantom Thief.
Biography
After he entered the anime industry, he initially worked at Trace Studio M (トレーススタジオM), and was in charge of projects like Ninja Hattori-kun (忍者ハットリくん) etc. Thereafter, he diverted to production and joined Tokyo Movie (東京ムービー; what is now known as TMS Entertainment) accordingly in 1984. His first animation work ever produced was Magic Knight Rayearth (魔法騎士レイアース). And after that, he mainly produced animation works for Yomiuri TV and TV Tokyo.
Despite being the producer for the Detective Conan anime, and even stepping up to chief producer after 2003, due to the alteration of the company's name (from Tokyo Movie to TMS Entertainment), he resigned from the chief producer role of Detective Conan in August 2011. Later on, he distanced himself from the production site, perhaps on account of his chronic illness.
In 2015, he served as the chief producer of the anime Ultimate Otaku Teacher (電波教師). Which was under the supervision of Yoshioka's friend, Masuaki Ueda (植田 益朗); with the animation done by TMS Entertainment, while having the A-1 Pictures act as the production site, in order to back up the return of Yoshioka. Therefore, this was his last work as a television producer.
After the anime was broadcast, he was hospitalised in December 2015, and passed away on January 14, 2016 at the age of 56[2]. On February 15 of the same year, a "Thank You Party for Masahito Yoshioka" was held at Nakano Sunplaza[2]. Moreover, movie 20 put a title card "In memory of Masahito Yoshioka" at the end credits of the film.
