Indonesian Special Manga

The Detective Conan Special Manga is published in Indonesia by Elex Media Komputindo, the official publisher for Detective Conan media in the country. The manga reading direction is inverted from the Japanese version. As a result, images are inverted, and left handed people are right handed people in this version. However, the translation still follows the Japanese version. The first volume was published in 2001, along with volumes 2-6 to catch up with the Japanese original, which started in 1997. In Q3 2004, volume covers were changed from the original white background with an image in the center to a solid background with varying colours and gradients. Prices were also raised to 20.000 rupiahs. In October 2015, after a four year hiatus, publishing restarted and prices were raised to 25.000 rupiahs. In 2021, starting volume 45, the manga reading direction is not inverted anymore, and is printed using high quality bookpaper, thus prices were raised from 25.000 rupiahs to 40.000 rupiahs. Between January and August 2022, volumes 1-13 were reprinted and made available in e-books, while the volume covers were updated to the 2004 version. In August 2023, for the release of volume 47, prices were raised from 40.000 rupiahs to 45.000 rupiahs.

It is published under the name "Detektif Conan - Edisi Spesial", literally meaning "Detective Conan - Special Edition". Volumes 1-24 are translated by M. Gunarsah, edited by Nining (17-24 only) and illustrated and designed by Bachtiar Zein (also known as @Bach).
