Akira Nishimori (西森 章 Nishimori Akira?), born 1 October 1961 in Miyazaki Prefecture, is a Japanese film director, producer and storyboard artist known for his participation in Rumic Theater, Gallery Fake, Hitohira, and Zombie-Loan. He currently resides in Nishitokyo.

Biography

Akira Nishimori dropped out of the Visual Planning Department at Osaka University of Arts (大阪芸術大学) in 1983; later on, he joined the animation company Artland (アートランド). He then quit the company in 1985 and has been working as a freelancer since then.

When he was still attending school, he initially thought to pursue his career as shooting real-life movies; yet he realised the fact that it would be impossible for him back then. By reason of the trendy animation films such as Mobile Suit Gundam ( 機動戦士ガンダム) and Space Battleship Yamato (宇宙戦艦ヤマト), he later came up with the idea of "using animation cartoons to produce movies", consequently he entered the anime industry[1].

Nishimori first joined the production of Detective Conan in 2003, starting with Movie 7: Crossroad in the Ancient Capital, as sub director[Note 1]. Afterwards, he constantly served as storyboard cooperation for the movies until Movie 17: Private Eye in the Distant Sea in 2013.

  1. ^ Note: Based on his role as sub director, some Detective Conan fans speculated that the heavy work of the Detective Conan movies made Kenji Kodama, the first movie director of the series, to alleviate certain portion by assigning a "sub-director" in this movie. It is highly probable as this was also the last Detective Conan movie directed by Kodama.
