The setting of the manga and anime franchise Detective Conan is a combination of real locations in Japan and fictional locations.

Contents

Tokyo Prefecture

Tokyo Prefecture (東京府 Tōkyō-fu?) is a Japanese government entity.

City of Tokyo

The Wards of Tokyo.

The City of Tokyo itself is part of the Greater Tokyo Area and consists of 21 special wards. In the works of Gosho Aoyama, there are a couple of fictional wards added to the city and the metropolitan area respectively.

Beika Ward

Beika Ward (米花区 Beika-ku?), alternatively Beika City (米花市 Beika-shi?), is a fictional special ward of Tokyo (in the manga) and a city in the Greater Tokyo Area (in the expanded canon) named after Baker Street, the location of Sherlock Holmes's flat. Beika City is divided into two towns: Beika and Haido.

Beika

Beika Town (米花町 Beika-chō?) is the district where Conan and a majority of the other main characters live. Like the Ward of Beika, it is named after Baker Street.[1]

Haido

Haido Town (杯戸町 Haido-chō?) is a district in Beika Ward adjacent to Beika Town and is named after London's Hyde Park.[1]

Chiyoda Ward

Chiyoda Ward (中央区 Chiyoda-ku?) is a special ward in the city of Tokyo and contains its historic districts.

Kasumigaseki

The district of Kasumigaseki (霞が関 Kasumigaseki?) contains the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Headquarters, which repeatedly appears in Detective Conan, Magic Kaito, and Zero's Tea Time. The 4th Block of Haido is said to be between it and Shinjuku's Yotsuya Station.

Marunouichi

Marunouichi (丸の内 Marunouichi?) is a commercial district close to the Imperial Palace. It's the location of Tokyo Station ("Tōto Station" in Detective Conan) and implied to be close to the districts of Beika and Yaoya.

Chūō Ward

Chūō Ward (中央区 Chūō-ku?) is a special ward in central Tokyo, containing the famous district of Ginza which appears several times in Gosho Aoyama's works. It's also implied to be close to Beika.

Ginza

Ginza (銀座 Ginza?) is a business and entertainment district. It's also referred to as Kinza (錦座 Kinza?) and Doza (銅座 Dōza?) in different mediums of Detective Conan.

Nihonbashi

The Ono Bank from the Magic Kaito manga seems to be based on the Tokyo Bank existing in this district back then.

Minato Ward

The Tokyo Tower of Minato from below in episode 4 of Detective Conan.

Minato Ward (港区 Minato-ku?) is an important harbor of Tokyo City. It implicitly seems to be the location for the (fictional) Minato Police Station and the Minato Hotel. It also is the ward where Tokyo Tower stands. Beika seems to be largely identical to it in the manga of Detective Conan. It seemingly also was the model for a lot of settings in the Magic Kaito: Kid the Phantom Thief specials.

Shiba Park

Location of the Tokyo Tower, said to be less than 1.34 kilometres (~0.8 miles) away from Beika.

Takanawa

This district contains the Shinagawa Station (品川駅 Shinagawa-eki?) (Kawashina Station (品川駅 Kawashina-eki?) in the movies), which is implied to be close to Haido.

Nerima Ward

Ekoda (江古田 Ekoda?) and several districts adjacent to it were the basis for Ekoda High School and its surroundings in the Manga of Magic Kaito and 100% Tantei Monogatari.

Shibuya Ward

Shibuya Crossing in Magic Kaito 1412.

The Shibuya Ward (渋谷区 Shibuya-ku?) is an important business and entertainment center of Tokyo. The famous Shibuya Crossing, the Tsutaya Store, Shibuya 109 and the fittingly named Shibuya Station are part of it, all of which appeared in different works by Gosho Aoyama.

It also contains the Harajuku Station (原宿駅 Harajuku-eki?) in its eponymous district, which appeared as Karajuku Station (空宿駅 Karajuku-eki?) in the anime and as Sorajuku Station (空宿駅 Sorajuku-eki?) in the movies.

Shinjuku Ward

Shibuya Ward (新宿区 Shibuya-ku?) is the central skyscraper ward of Tokyo, containing some of its most famous building in the district of Nishi-Shinjuku, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. Some districts of it were used as models for Beika in the expanded canon (anime, movies, Hanzawa the Criminal). The 4th Block of Haido is said to be between its Yotsuya Station and Chiyoda's Tokyo Metropolitan Police Headquarters.

Hyakunin

Hyakunin's Shin-Ōkubo Station and Beika Station.

Hyakunin Town (百人町 Hyakunin-chō?), especially the Shin-Ōkubo Station and its surroundings found there, were used as models for Beika and its own train station. In the movies, even the position of Beika Station seems to be identical to it, judging by route maps.

Okubo

Okubo (大久保 Ōkubo?), is a district built around Hyakunin and the Shin-Ōkubo Station. Mentioned as Kokubo (大久保 Kōkubo?) in the expanded canon.

Toshima Ward

The residences of the Kuroba and Nakamori families are located in a so far unnamed district of Toshima Ward (豊島区 Toshima-ku?) in the manga of Magic Kaito.

Ikebukuro

Ikebukuro (池袋 Ikebukuro?), sometimes also called Sawabukuro (沢袋 Sawabukuro?) in expanded canon, is a commercial and entertainment district. The Ikebukuro Station and PARCO Building (renamed "PAPCO") next to it from this district appear several times in Gosho Aoyama's works.

Unknown city or ward

Buroku

Buroku Town (分禄町 Buroku-chō?) is a fictional district located somewhere on a radius of less than 1.34 kilometres (~0.8 miles) between the Mouri Detective Agency and Tokyo Tower. It's probably a part of the Beika Ward.

Sutan

Sutan Town (須単町 Sutan-chō?) is a fictional district located somewhere on a radius of less than 1.34 kilometres (~0.8 miles) between the Mouri Detective Agency and Tokyo Tower where Eri Kisaki was held captive in an abandoned house from which Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Sky Tree are equally visible. It's probably a part of the Beika Ward.

Yaoya

Yaoya Town (八百八町 Yaoya-chō?) is the fictional district where the Mine family's mansion is and in which Yaiba Kurogane lives during the course of Yaiba. There's a so far unnamed junior high school in or close to it, that was attended by Sayaka Mine, Takeshi Onimaru, and Keiko Momoi, which also seems to be associated with Ekoda High School.

Nagano Prefecture

Nagano Prefecture (長野県 Nagano-ken?) is located in the Chūbu region of Japan.

Sunset Manor

Sunset Manor

The Sunset Manor (黄昏の館 Tasogare no yakata?) is a huge western-style manor house in the isolated mountains of Matsumoto, six miles from a lonely gas station.[2] According to Kogoro, it looks more like Dracula's Castle, and up close even more like a haunted house. It once belonged to the multi-millionaire Renya Karasuma, who inherited it from his mother. It was brought two years ago by Shukuzen Ogami, who search for the treasure until Furuyo Senma killed him. It's a Golden Manor, made of gold and painted black, and since Karasuma is a crow-like man, personified his nest.

Osaka Prefecture

Osaka Prefecture (大阪府 Ōsaka-fu?) is located in the Kansai region of Japan and is the home to Heiji Hattori, Kazuha Toyama, and the Osaka Police Department.

Osaka

Osaka (大阪 Ōsaka?) is the capital city of Osaka Prefecture featured prominently throughout the series. The city has many landmarks, including Osaka Castle, Tsūtenkaku Tower, and the Osaka Dome.

Heiji's house

Neyagawa

According to The Naniwa Serial Murder Case, Hattori family's home is not in Osaka City, the capitol of Osaka, but in the very nearby city of Neyagawa (寝屋川市 Neyagawa-shi?).

Tottori Prefecture

Tottori Prefecture (鳥取県 Tottori-ken?) is located in the Chūgoku region of Japan. Misao mentioned his paternal grandmother Misae lives in Kurayoshi. Officer Chosuke Takagi was transferred to Tottori to tackle a crime ring. Its capital is the city of the same name which was involved in Tottori Sand Dunes Mystery Tour as well as the nearby city of Kurayoshi.

Yamanashi Prefecture

Yamanashi Prefecture (山梨県 Yamanashi ken?) is located in the Chūbu region of Japan. The prefecture is landlocked, featuring a fertile central valley, surrounded by many of the highest mountains in Japan.

Tokiwa Hotel

This is where Shukichi Haneda claimed his 7th title in a shogi match.

Gunma Prefecture

Gunma Prefecture (群馬県 Gunma-ken?) is located in the Kantō region of Japan.

Suzuki Villa

Sonoko's family owns a villa in those woods that is surrounded by forest. It is only accessible by a very old foot bridge that tends to collapse alot. The villa appeared as the central location in episode 34-35 (35 and 36 in CC), and made a brief cameo in episode 446-447.

Restaurants

Iroha Sushi

Iroha Sushi (いろは寿司 iroha zushi?) is a sushi restaurant located just next-door to Cafe Poirot. It usually opens all week 7/7 days and on nights. Kogoro Mouri is a regular to that restaurant when he wins horse races. It sells many variety of sushis, sashimis, grilled fish (not found in every sushi shop) and many delicious dishes. It is the workplace of Kanenori Wakita, a sushi chef who regularly changes of workplaces and his Boss. Its owner usually organizes parties with the Café Poirot Master and other restaurant owners of the district. It is located in Beika Town District 5 (米花町5丁目 Beika-chō 5-chōme?).

Café Poirot

Café Poirot (喫茶店ポアロ Kissaten Poaro?), where Azusa Enomoto and Rei Furuya work, is located directly beneath the Mouri Detective Agency. The café gets its name from one of Agatha Christie's most popular detectives, Hercule Poirot. It is located in Beika Town District 5 (米花町5丁目 Beika-chō 5-chōme?).

Café Columbo

Café Columbo (喫茶コロンボ Kissa Koronbo?) was first mentioned in chapter 2 of the manga. It is the restaurant that Professor Agasa had been to right before meeting Conan. The restaurant itself first appears in the The Forgotten Cell Phone. The restaurant gets its name from TV detective Columbo, whose show is very well-loved in Japan. It is located in Beika Town District 5 (米花町5丁目 Beika-chō 5-chōme?).

Danny's

Danny's location.

Restaurant Danny's Dining (レストランダニーの食事 Resutorandanī no shokuji?) is a family restaurant, likely modeled off of Denny's. Location of one case in the manga, that has made repeat appearances in the anime originals and movies. The restaurant is mostly known for its curry menu, which is mentioned to be very delicious by many characters.

Donny's

Two of the Donny's locations.

Family Restaurant Donny's (ファミリーレストランドニーズ Famirīresutorandonīzu?) is a family restaurant, likely modeled off of Denny's. One Donny's location was seen when the Detective Boys were running around the area near the Touto Tower. A magician who abducted the daughter of her master took her to a Donny's. Kogoro met a famous samurai actor client regarding a prospective case at Donny's.

Cucina Eigo

Cucina Eigo

Cucina Eigo (クシナ・エイゴ Kushina eigo?) is an italian restaurant which's architecture is modeled after the countryside restaurants of Italy. The name of the restaurant is named after Cucina, an italian word meaning cuisine and Eigo, the name of the owner who is Eigo Kuchiishi. It is one of the few Michelin-starred restaurants of Japan and is located in the agglomeration of Tokyo. A disappearance case of some guests and the attempted murder of the owner happened there but was hopefully solved.

Café Raoul

Café Raoul (カフェロウル Kaferouru?) is a French restaurant with a Paris style interior that Kogoro considers his new-found secret hideout. After Conan told Ran about it, Eri and Ran went out to eat there as well.

Ramen Ogura

Ramen Ogura (ラーメン小倉 Rāmen Ogura?) used to be a rundown shop on a shopping street in Haido Town. Despite the low customer traffic, its specialty dish full of bamboo shoots "Yama ramen" (閻魔大王ラーメン Enma Daiō rāmen?) is very tasty. The shop's motto is "So good, it's to die for." Ironically it was the scene of a murder case. After the case, it moved to Beika Town and became quite popular. Its motto also changed to "Ramen so wicked, it's to die for."

Blue Parrot

A billiards parlor and bar owned by Konosuke Jii. It first appears in Magic Kaito in Ch 13 Hustler vs. Magician. Later the parlor appears in Detective Conan with a different appearance in Ch 853 A Detective Encounters a Case in a Bar, and has a bartender named Yuzuki Fukui.

Elementary schools

Teitan Elementary School

Teitan Elementary school

Teitan Elementary School (帝丹小学校 Teitan Shōgakkō?) is the elementary school of Conan, Haibara, and the Detective Boys. Teitan Elementary currently does not require a uniform. "Teitan" is a play-on word of "tantei"(探偵) meaning "detective".

Haido Elementary School

While no main characters attend Haido Elementary School (杯戸小学校 Haido Shōgakkō?), this school plays a key role in Company President's Daughter Kidnapping Case. Keita Onoda and Chiaki from The Secret Played by the Diary are currently enrolled as first grade students there.

Middle/Junior High schools

Teitan Middle School

Colleges/Universities

Tohto University

Tohto University (東都大学 Tōto Daigaku?) is the fictional counterpart of the similarly prestigious Tokyo University. It has a mountaineering club, but its leader dies in The Fearful Traversing Murder Case. One of the university's graduate student received the equivalent of the Nobel prize in astronomy in The Suspicious Astronomical Observation. Tohto University's Medical school students are the prime suspects in the Alpine Hut in the Snowy Mountain Murder Case. An alumni of the Physical Education department appears in The Kamen Yaiba Murder Case. All the suspects of the Memories of First Love case were Toto University literature students. After having faked his death, Shuichi Akai disguised as Subaru Okiya was admitted to the university's Engineering School to prepare for a doctorate.

Students

Teitan University

Campus of Teitan University, as seen in episode 573.

Teitan University (帝丹大学 Teitan Daigaku?) is associated with Teitan Elementary School and Teitan High School. Conan, Mitsuhiko, Genta and Ayumi were forced to act in a play at the university in Ayumi-chan Kidnapping Case. Teruaki Kunisue, an acquaintance of Kazuha, is a student there and is a member of the tennis club.

Beika University

Beika University (米花大学 Beika Daigaku?) is a university in Beika City, Beika Town. Its drama students occasionally put on performances for the public. The University has appeared very rarely in the series, but its alumni make frequent appearances. A student from the Beika University School of Medecine was once a suspect in The Partner is Santa-san, and students from Beika University School of Agriculture made the Detective Boys visit a lab in Deadly Poisonous Spider Trap. The Valentine Murder Case was about the tensions inside the Tennis club of Beika University. The university has a film club whose members are shown in Riddle Solution at Café Poirot.

Students

  • Kogoro Mouri, ace of the Judo club.

Beika Women's University

Beika Women's University (米花女大学 Beika On'na daigaku?) is a university in Beika City, Beika Town. It is a women only university, but its existence has only been shown in an anime-original case, so it is not canon. It appeared in A Woman Standing by the Window as one of its teacher, Junnosuke Tachibana, is a suspect and lives in high-rise building where the victim fell. Its students seem to like him for his beauty and handsomeness.

Beika Art School

Beika Art School (米花美術学校 Beika Bijutsu gakkō?) is an art school in Beika Town in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area. Its existence is only mentionned in The Detective Boys Become Models which makes in still not confirmed in the canon plot.

Haido University

Haido University (杯戸大学 Haido Daigaku?) is the fictional counterpart of Rikkyo University. It was shown in The Mystery of Beika Street Crossroad. Its existence is therefore not confirmed in the canon plot as it appeared in a filler episode.

Jonan University

Jonan University (城南大学 Jounan Daigaku?) is first mentioned in the Night Baron Murder Case, where one of the suspects, Satoru Maeda, was a member of the Electronics department. It appeared in later filler episodes, such as The Kamen Yaiba Murder Case, where it is confirmed that Jonan has a Law school and an Engineering school.
The university appeared more recently in The Raven Chaser. "Jonan University" is the equivalent of "Jane Doe" in English, as "Jonan" is used in Japan as a name for any normal university. The culprit of the Underwater Key in the Locked Room Case is a 4th year Med school student.

Teito University

Teito University (帝都大学 Teito Daigaku?) (Lit. Imperial Capital) is a university in the Tokyo Metropolitan area. It is first mentionned in Friendship Washed Away in the Riverbed. This filler episode suggests the university has a school of Humanities, of Philosophy and of Education. This is not confirmed in the canon as the episode was an anime original.

Entertainment places

Tropical Land

Tropical Land (トロピカルランド Toropikaru Rando?) is an amusement park which was the site of the last date between Shinichi and Ran, before Shinichi was forced to take APTX 4869 by Gin and Vodka of the Black Organization. The park is built in what is now considered a standard layout: guests enter the park into a central hub which then splits off into other themed areas radiating out from the center. Notable appearances of Tropical Land within Detective Conan include The Roller Coaster Murder Case, The Revival of the Dying Message, and Captured in Her Eyes. This location was first introduced in the Magic Kaito manga.

Haido Town Shopping Mall

Haido Town Shopping Mall (杯戸町のショッピングモール Haido-chō no Shoppingu Mōru?) has the largest ferris wheel in Japan, over 125m tall, with 72 seats. For the ferris wheel to make one full rotation, it takes over 18 minutes (30cm per second, according to Haibara). The ferris wheel itself is better known as the place where Jinpei Matsuda died trying to defuse a bomb left by a crazed bomber.

Miracle Land

Miracle Land (ミラクルランド Mirakuru rando?) is an amusement park that is prominently featured in The Private Eyes' Requiem. The over-sea ride is similar to the real-life Hakkeijima Sea Paradise in Yokohama.

Historical sites

Landmarks

Tokyo Tower/Tohto Tower

Tokyo Tower (東京タワー Tōkyō Tawā?) is a communications and observation tower located in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan built in the 1950s. Inspired in design by the Eiffel Tower, this landmark has become a popular tourist and school field trip destination. In the manga and anime series the tower is referred to as Tohto[3] Tower (東都タワー Tōto Tawā?). "Tohto" is a shorter way of saying Tokyo Metropolis (東京都 Tōkyō-to?). The tower was featured in The Raven Chaser, during the climax of the film.

Bell Tree Tower

Tsutenkaku Tower

The Tsutenkaku Tower (通天閣 Tsūtenkaku?) is a weather and observation tower located in Naniwa-ku, Osaka, Japan built originally in 1912, dismantled, and then rebuilt in the 1950s. This tower, like Tokyo Tower, was inspired in design by the Eiffel Tower in addition to the Arc de Triomphe. The 1912 Tsutenkaku Tower was built next to an amusement park but later dismantled in the 1940s in an effort to thwart American bombing raids. The current tower was built on the same site in the 1950s thanks to the efforts of the citizens of Osaka. Notable appearances of this landmark in Detective Conan include The Naniwa Serial Murder Case, Conan and Heiji and the Vanished Boy, and The Last Wizard of the Century.

Tokyo Sky Tree/Bell Tree Tower

The Tokyo Sky Tree (東京スカイツリー Tōkyō Sukai Tsurī?) is a broadcasting, restaurant, and observation tower located in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan construction was complete on February 29, 2012, while it opened to the public on May 22, 2012. The Sky Tree was built mostly to give better digital terrestrial television coverage since the Tokyo Tower has long been overshadowed by taller high-rise buildings and is unable to provide the necessary coverage. The in series name for the Tokyo Sky Tree is Bell Tree Tower (ベルツリータワー Beru Tsurī Tawā?). Judging from the use of the name "Bell Tree", it seems it was built/is owned in series by the Suzuki Zaibatsu. The Sky Tree replaced the Tokyo Tower as the scene of the climax for Akako's face-off against Kaitou Kid in A Witch Sheds No Tears. The tower has been featured recently in Lupin III vs. Detective Conan: The Movie, The Coded Invitation, and Dimensional Sniper.

Beika Station

Beika Station (米花駅 Beika-eki?) is the main train station frequented by the cast of Detective Conan and is one of the many stations located along the Loop Line. This station played a key role in The Time-Bombed Skyscraper. It seems to be modeled in appearance after the real-life Shin-Ōkubo Station in Shinjuku, Japan.[4]

Loop Line

The Loop Line (環状線 Kanjōsen?) is the main set of tracks for Beika City and was featured prominently in The Time-Bombed Skyscraper. As its name suggests, this track runs in a loop around Beika City. A majority of the stations seem to be based on the real-life Yamanote Line. In The Missing Page it is referred to as the Tohto[3] Line (東都線 Tōto-sen?).
