Kaiju Gomera vs. Kamen Yaiba (大怪獣ゴメラVS仮面ヤイバー ,Daikaijū Gomera Vāsasu Kamen Yaibā) is the 965th, 966th, 967th, and 968th episode of the Detective Conan anime. The main setting is the new Nichiuri TV station in Osaka, which is modeled after Yomiuri TV new headquarters that started its operation on September 1, 2019.

Situation

Prologue

Nichiuri TV celebrate the opening of their new office building in Osaka and announce the production of the movie "Kaiju Gomera vs. Kamen Yaiba" by Taiho Pictures. Conan, Kogoro, Ran, the Detective Boys, Heiji and Kazuha are all there to take part in the filming as extras. TV producer Yonekura gets killed when a monster suit falls on him in the warehouse. Conan and Heiji deduce there were two culprits and that they are his subordinates Mihara and Kouchi. Mihara and Kouchi try to escape arrest in Yonekura's car but Mihara is stopped by police. Kouchi drives off and crashes the car into a river. A bomb in the car goes off and kills him.

Since he didn't to stop his car, he nearly ran over Ran but she was saved on time by Fumimaro Ayanokoji who just happened to come by. Kazuha, who was walking with Ran, escaped getting ran over since Ran pushed her on the side.

Bombing-Accidental Murder

Location: Road near Osaka's Nichiuri TV station, Osaka Victim: Takeru Kouchi Age: 35 years old Time: Afternoon Cause of death: Explosion from car crash impact Suspects: Unknown After driving past Ran, Kouchi sped but a taxi came from another runway and Kouchi was forced to turn at his right and crashed into the nearby river. The unstable explosive inside the car caused it to explode and kill Kouchi on the spot. It is believed by the police that the original target to be killed by the explosive was Yonekura and not Kouchi.

Interlude

The next day, Fumimaro Ayanokoji joins the investigation as Yonekura was connected to a scriptwriter Onda, who died in Kyoto the day before Yonekura's death when he drove off a cliff. Yonekura and Onda worked together on an independent film 20 years ago. A third death occurs in Suemura, an employee of Taiho Pictures, when a bomb explodes at an abandoned warehouse. Suemura was also a part of Yonekura's team 20 years ago. The bomb used matches the one that was in Yonekura's car and the police suspect a bomb was also used in Onda's death. They learn of a fourth member of the team 20 years ago in Katsuji Ishizawa and look for him only to find him bound and gagged in the kitchen of his own home.

Bombing-Murder (Past)
	Location: Takaragaike road, Kyoto Victim: Takashi Onda Age: 43 years old Time: 2 days ago at night Cause of death: Explosion from car crash impact Suspects: Unknown While Onda was drunk, he drove on Takaragaike and his car exploded killing him instantly. The explosive used was acetone peroxide, just like in Kouchi's car crash accident.

Bombing-Murder

Location: Unnamed company warehouse near Osaka Castle Victim: Ryohei Suemura Age: 51 years old Time: Morning Cause of death: Explosion Suspects: Unknown Otaki comes to the filming site and brings Heiji and Conan to another case which just happened : Ryohei Suemura, an employee for the company which produces Kamen Yaiba vs. Gomera was killed when he opened a box of explosives (the same used in the previous murders) in an abandoned warehouse which was to be used to film some movie scenes.

Climax

Ishizawa's brought to a hospital. He had been starved for two to three days with bruises all over. Conan and Kogoro investigate Ishizawa's residence. They deduce Ishizawa was locked in his room on the second floor, broke out and fell down the stairs but couldn't explain why he didn't go outside for help. Conan notices a newspaper in the entranceway with a story on Yonekura's death. Conan meets with Haibara, who tells Conan about how Yonekura, Onda and Suemura all paid off their debts ten years ago and, at around the same time, there was an unsolved robbery of 120 million yen by a four-man group. Also, before his death, Onda was close to bankruptcy after failed investments.

Kidnapping
	Location: House in Sakai Victim: Katsuji Ishizawa Age: 38 years old Time: Midnight Suspects: Unknown While staking out his house, the police find out he has been bound and gagged inside it and that he was just barely alive. Fortunately, he survived and has been brought to the police hospital to recover.

Robbery (Past)

Location: Mansion in Kobe Victim: Old couple and two employees Age: Unknown Time: 10 years ago Robbed items: 120 million yen (approx. 1 million $ / 33.4 million ฿) Suspects: Isato Yonekura, Katsuji Ishizawa, Ryohei Suemura, Takashi Onda and an unknown person Ten years ago, four people robbed a mansion in Kobe and took away 120 million yen. Later investigations made it clear that the culprits were likely to be the four members of "Team Yonekura". While analyzing the proof that was on DVD, they find out that indeed the four of them were part of it but that there was a fifth member, the one who filmed the video.

The culprits who killed Yonekura were Takeru Kouchi and Yoshito Mihara. Kouchi was killed by a bomb planted by Isato Yonekura and that was created by Katsuji Ishizawa, who originally planned to kill Suemura, Onda and Yonekura for bullying. Yonekura was the mastermind behind the bombings and planned to kill his four accomplices in the robbery from 10 years ago. The fifth member of the group, who was targeted by Yonekura, is in fact Ishizawa's brother Koichi Ishizawa. Fortunately, Heiji and Kazuha manage to deactivate their respective bomb at nearly the same time.

Takeru Kouchi and Yoshito Mihara who killed Yonekura because the victim took credit of their work because the culprits came up with most of the victim recent plans and with him out of the way they can take the top spot.

The group committed a robbery and managed to steal 120 million yen in Kobe so Onda, Suemara and Yonekura would be able to pay off their debts.

Onda recently had a failed investment and was on the verge of bankruptcy which caused Yonekura to kill his accomplices because Onda was blackmailing him. Yonekura killed Onda and wanted him to be killed on an even day which Yonekura was to have an alibi and Onda supposed to die on the day of the movie production announcement as Onda drove his red sport car on even dates while the blue one on odd dates but Onda died a day early which distressed Yonekura him to the point that he was not able to get out of the way of the falling Kaiju costume which crushed him to death.

The bomb in Yonekura’s car wasn't a bomb but a set of explosives that had not been made into a bomb which he planned to kill Katsuji with but Kouchi’s driving caused the explosives to explode making his death an accident.

Yonekura had the authority to make Suemura go to the warehouse where the bomb was that he planted. Yonekura tied up Katsuji and planned to kill him on his way to a business trip to make it seem like Katsuji was the culprit and make his death seemingly be accidental death by the bomber.

Trivia

• This is the first anime-original case that occupies the length of four episodes; the episodes' production standard is also extremely close to the movies.
  • In the summer of 2018, after Takahiro Okura had finished composing the script for Movie 23: The Fist of Blue Sapphire, the director Yasuichiro Yamamoto commissioned him to conceive the script of this case.
• The producer victim is named after actual Detective Conan producer Isato Yonekura; which is also the second Detective Conan producer who was "persecuted" in the anime, after Michihiko Suwa.
• The case reveals that Kazuha actually likes the Gomera movies since she watched them when she was young with Heiji although this fact is not confirmed in the manga.
• Taiho Pictures is a pun to Toho Pictures, the company which produces the Detective Conan movies and Godzilla movies.
• The ultimate scene regarding the bomb disposal pays homage to Movie 1: The Time-Bombed Skyscraper.
• The four section titles: 序 (Jo ), 破 (Yabu ), 急 (Kyū ), and 結 (Ketsu ) originate from concepts of Japanese traditional literature; whilst paying homage to the naming manner of the TV movie Rebuild of Evangelion.
• Yonekura's SUV stolen by Mihara and Kouchi is a 2007 black clearcoat Lincoln Navigator (U326). The license plate number is 浪速 300, よ 12-09 (Naniwa 300, Yo 12-09).
• One of the cars in the parking is a brown Toyota Prius. The license plate number is 浪速 301, ふ 68-20 (Naniwa 301, Fu 68-20). Another Toyota Prius, although white, is seen at the scene of Onda's accident.
• The Naniwa Police Hospital (浪速警察病院 ,Naniwa keisatsu byōin) is in fact the Osaka Police Hospital (大阪警察病院 ,Ōsaka keisatsu byōin).
• Onda's blue car is a bleu abysse 2018 Alpine A110 Premiere Edition. The license plate number is 浪速 332, り 1-10 (Naniwa 332, Ri 1-10).
• Onda's red car was a rosso portofino pearl 2018 Ferrari Portofino [F164]. The license plate number was 浪速 332, は 1-64 (Naniwa 332, Wa 1-64).
• Otaki's police car is a Toyota Crown. The license plate number is 浪速 800, ? 33-86 (Naniwa 800, ? 33-86).
• Fumimaro Ayanokoji's car is a bianco ghiaccio 2006 Alfa Romeo Brera 1750 TBi. The license plate number is 東山 302, よ 11-17 (Higashiyama 302, Yo 11-17).
• On several promotional materials, the character designer Masatomo Sudo was recorded with the position of "Chief Animation Director", yet he was never credited with that role in the ending credits.
• This was the first episode to be dubbed by Macias Group, and also the first one to be dubbed into English in nearly fourteen years after Funimation last dubbed episode.
• There is an error in the the 3rd part of the case, when Kogoro is knocked out by Conan to help solve the case, at no point is Conan seen placing the Button Speaker on the back of his dress shirt collar, and just before Kogoro is knocked out, the Button Speaker isn't shown on his shirt collar, but once Conan begins his deduction as Kogoro, the Button Speaker is suddenly visible on the back of Kogoro's collar.
