After collecting all necessary clues from Takagi and Camel, Bourbon finally deduces correctly that Shuichi Akai faked his death by switching corpses with Rikumichi Kusuda. He explains everything in detail to Vermouth, and says that finding the real Akai will be just a matter of days. Conan is afraid as he knows that the Black Organization can find out Akai isn't dead and this would put Kir's life in jeopardy.
Later, Amuro arrives at the Kudo Residence where Subaru Okiya is staying. He implies they aren't meeting for the first time. At the same time, Jodie Starling and Andre Camel are near Raiha Pass, trying to figure out what happened the day Akai was killed. Meanwhile, Amuro explains to Subaru the events concerning Akai and Kusuda during the time Kir was found by the Organization, while Subaru watches the Macademy Awards where Yusaku Kudo is about to get his own award. Bourbon finally explains how Akai could turn into Subaru just by some disguise and voice changer, but finds nothing like this to back up his theory.
Surprisingly, some mysterious people approach Jodie and Camel's car and Akai is in fact alive and in the backseat. He helps them get away from them and later returns to these people and calls Bourbon. Those men were the Japanese Secret Police and were working under Bourbon's orders. Tooru Amuro's real name is Rei Furuya and he works for the Japanese Secret Police. He has infiltrated the Black Organization. Akai tells him that they shouldn't lose sight of the real prey in their hunt, and that he doesn't want Furuya as an enemy. This leads Furuya to think that his theory was wrong as Subaru isn't wearing the voice-changing choker and Akai is talking to him on the phone when Subaru is right in front of him. Bourbon leaves the Kudo Residence and apologies.
Subaru goes upstairs and tells Conan that their plan was a complete success. He removes a mask and it is shown that Subaru Okiya was at that time Yusaku Kudo. The Yusaku at the Awards Ceremony is in fact Yukiko in disguise. However, Bourbon has been tricked as this was all an idea Conan came up with so that Akai can continue living quietly under his disguise. Subaru Okiya was a disguise worn by Shuichi Akai all along.
It is revealed that a spy in the Black Organization under the codename of Scotch was killed some time ago when his infiltration was discovered. It is implied that Scotch was close to Akai and Furuya and that they regret what happened to him. For some reason, Bourbon seems to blame Akai for his murder.
Some time after this, Akai informs Jodie and Camel that Kir sent a message to him with the word Rum. This is the codename of the Organization's second man, the boss' right hand. A new Black Organization member is on the move under the codename of Rum.
