Part 1
Yumi overhears that a promotion for Takagi will send him to a case in a far away place where he shall remain there until the case is solved. Apparently the case involves a large number of people in a crime organization, where he is expected to be there for three years. Later the Detecitve Boys are walking home when they noticed a strange jogger. Takagi, Sato, and Chosuke are placed on the case of a murder.

Yui Shimura is one of the office workers. The Detective Boys come across them and identify the jogger as the suspect. When they arrive, Akiro Kato's alibi of video recordings proves he was there the whole time the murder took place, but the Detective Boys are certain he was the jogger. What's more, the alibi is confirmed by Detective Chiba, since it's his roommate.

Conan discovers that
Akira Kato tricked Chiba's sense of time. He revealed that there was a re-air of the news, and it was dubbed. He also revealed that Kato cut out parts and fast forwarded parts of the video to manipulate time. He also spun the time two hours behind, and slowly fixed it as the day dragged on.
Motive
Kato confesses that Nakamoto was responsible for Yui breaking up with him: during the time that he was working abroad, Nakamoto hid all of his letters for Yui, which made her believed that Kato stop caring for her and broke up with him to be with Nakamoto.
Afterwards, Takagi almost proposes to Sato but Megure reveals to him Chosuke Takagi is the one being sent for the case. They later take the Detective Boys to karaoke.

- One of the figurines on the TV's shelf is Astro Boy.
- This is the case that Sato played a prank on Detective Wataru Takagi.
- The Detective Boys walk past Beika City Fourth District on the way to Teitan Elementary School.
- This is the first time that a suspect was a friend, and in this case, roommate to Detective Kazunobu Chiba.
- This case reveals that Kazunobu Chiba always oversleeps and gets in late, and probably because his apartment is a chaotic looking mess.
- This case reveals that Detective Chiba is a fan of tokusatsu fanatic with his mountainload of their action figures and video tapes. He may say that collecting the figures are a hobby, although that does not explain the 6 or more hours of viewing time for those shows and movies.
- This is the first time that Detective Chiba was the alibi.
- Sato's red car seems to have the license plate of 901.
- When Yumi sneezed, she is standing beside a policewoman poster of what looks like herself.
- It is unknown if Detective Chosuke Takagi is heading to Tottori due to the Black Organization or not. At the beginning of the case, it was simply called a 'gang of thieves, who have attempted some murders in Tokyo,' so it is highly unlikely to deal with that nefarious organization, which only federal agencies seem be aware of.
- This is the case with two different Detective Takagis: Detective Wataru Takagi and Detective Chosuke Takagi, and both of them spell Takagi with the exxact same Kanji, which is 高木.
- Apparently NONE of the Tokyo Polilcemen were aware that Detective Chosuke Takagi was among their ranks at all, even though he is Megure's senior by two years, and apparently also in Division One-Homicide department. They were not aware that there was another Takagi at all in the Police Department. One even told Detective Wataru Takagi that, "Your the only numbskull named Takagi we have." However, since Megure calls Chosuke, "Chou-san," possibly everyone does, without knowing his last name.
- Since Superintendent Kiyonaga Matsumoto and Inspector Juzo Megure were thinking of who to send for this Undercover opperation in Tottori, and it needs to be someone who is familiar with the lay of the land around Tottori, them Matsumoto thought "Isn't that guy's hometown somewhere around Tottori," which means that both Takagis may have a home town in the Chugoku Region.
