Works in Detective Conan
Kawamura was originally affiliated with Axel Corporation (アクセル), but he quit the studio after a few years, and currently a freelance animator.
Kawamura joined the production of the Detective Conan anime exceedingly early, starting with the third episode An Idol's Locked Room Murder Case. He is technically considered as the second animation director who worked in the Detective Conan anime, after Masatomo Sudo. After that, he constantly did animation director work in the anime, meanwhile served as the storyboard and sub-character designer for some episodes as well. However, Kawamura was absent in the anime production during the 2nd half of 1998 due to him working on the two hour special The Girl from the Black Organization and the University Professor Murder Case that was about to air in 1999. He was responsible for some famous scenes in that episode, for example, the scenario which Haibara deliberately scared Conan was from his hands. After working on this episode, Kawamura quit the anime production team. He did not involve in the anime at all for ten years. However, he still went to serve as animation director, assistant animation director, layout, technical director and key animation works for the movies.
In 2009, Kawamura returned to the anime production team, and served as the animation director in the episodes outsourced to BIG BANG, until present. From this stinct onwards, his name crediting had changed from the full kanji "河村明夫" to full kana "かわむらあきお".
