Hajime Kamegaki (亀垣 一 Kamegaki Hajime?), born 21 august 1957, is a Japanese screenplay writer, film director, storyboard artist and producer famous for his movies. He was nominated at 2013 edition of the Japan Academy Film Prize for Animation of the Year for Lupin III vs. Detective Conan: The Movie.

Biography

Kamegaki graduated from the animation department of Tokyo Designer Gakuin Vocational School (専門学校東京デザイナー学院), presently known as Tokyo Cool Japan Vocational School. After he debuted as an animator via the anime Invincible Super Man Zambot 3 (無敵超人ザンボット3), he has worked at Studio Z and Studio Z5, and has directed countless works. Surprisingly, still active on the front lines for over 20 years. He often works with fellow anime director Osamu Nabeshima (鍋島 修), and is often in charge of direction and storyboarding. Furthermore, whenever he works with Hideyuki Motohashi, they share the penname Shuichi Kamemoto (亀本 秀一 Kamemoto Shūichi?).

He first involved in the Detective Conan anime in 2000, starting with the two hour special episode of the new millennium, The Twenty Year Old Murderous Intent: The Symphony Serial Murder Case, and was in charge of its organizer, storyboard, and episode director work, meanwhile manifesting his capability and receiving numerous praises due to the high quality. In 2016, he served as the storyboard for the TV special Conan and Ebizo's Kabuki Jūhachiban Mystery, which was made for the 20th anniversary of Detective Conan anime. Kamegaki was also responsible for the processing of some mechanical shots in the anime: he served as the mechanical supervisor for The Scarlet Return series; mechanical animation director for The Secret of the Insect Man.

It is worth mentioning that Kamegaki was the director for the crossover special Lupin III vs. Detective Conan.
