Museum Owner Murder Case
File 030 - The Armored Knight
There was a rumor that there has been a medieval suit of armor walking by itself at night there. And since Ran was curious, she forced Kogoro and Conan to accompany her there. While in the museum, they met the curator of the museum, Ochiai who told them that the museum will be closing soon as it was going to be demolished by its owner, Mr. Manaka. As the were chatting, the curator noticed one of the staff, Kubota, handling a painting without gloves and hence scolded him. He then told a colleague, Iijma, to take over Kubota's job. Kubota then picked up a trolley of armor and started pushing it before accidentally dropping the helmet. He was nagged by the owner and after the owner left, he showed his annoyance by banging it on the floor after picking it up.
Kogoro, Ran and Conan decided to visit the different galleries of the museum. As they were about to go home, Ran noticed that the closed sign on one of the gallery which she hasn't entered,The Hell Gallery, was no longer there and decided to enter it. The gallery was dimly lit and upon their entrance, their attention was grabbed by the gigantic painting hung before them called, "The Wrath of Heaven". As Kogoro and Conan was still admiring the artwork, Ran noticed a dead body pinned onto the wall with a sword. In no time, the Inspector Megure arrived and along with Kogoro and Conan, they checked the surveillance camera installed in the gallery.
File 031 - Dying Message
From the recording of the surveillance camera, they were able to see how the crime occurred. They saw that while Mr. Manaka was waiting for someone in the gallery, someone in the armor knocked him down with a sword from behind. He then chocked Mr. Manaka and pierced the sword right through him, causing him to be stuck on the wall. As he walked away, he created an exact image of that in the painting that they saw previously. From it, they learned that the crime occurred at 4:30 p.m. and Conan also pointed out that Mr. Manaka scribbled something on a piece of paper before he was stabbed. So, Inspector Megure went to check what was written on the piece of paper. It appeared that Kubota's name was scribbled on it. Hence, they asked him for his alibi. Apparently, he couldn't prove it as he was alone doing what the curator told him to. His colleague, Iijma also pointed out that a possible motive was that he was exposed for smuggling out the artworks and owed the owner a huge sum of money.
Afterwards, Conan found the pen used to write the dying message. He then went through everything once more. After watching the surveillance video, he observed the dying message. After quite some time, he noticed scratches on it and figured out the trick used by the murderer.
