BLUE ENCOUNT (ブルー・エンカウント Burū Enkaunto?) is a Japanese rock band from Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. First founded in 2004, they saw their major breakthrough in 2014 after being signed to major label Kioon Music.

Career

Shunichi Tanabe, Yuya Eguchi and Yoshihide Takamura first met at Kumamoto College of Technology in 2003[4]. The band was formed the next year. Its name was inspired from the belief that bands with colors in their names would be successful, while "Encount" came from Hong Kong movie "Blue Encounter", which Tanabe saw in a DVD rental shop[5]. In 2006, the band performed as the representative of Kumamoto Prefecture at the TEENS' MUSIC FESTIVAL, but failed to advance to the national tournament. Their first bassist left to pursue their studies, and after Eguchi and Takamura graduated from their technical college, the three remaining members moved to Tokyo to study music at the Tokyo School of Music in Shibuya. They were then joined by Yuta Tsujimura as a support member, who was one year ahead of them at the college[6].

After the band participated in the 2008 edition of the Yamaha-sponsored music festival "Music Revolution", Tsujimura officially joined the band[7]. Their first mini-album was released in 2010, but did not see the success the band wanted it to garner and BLUE ENCOUNT struck a down period for its band members. In 2011, after touring with fellow bands ircle and SUPER BEAVER, advice received from both bands made BLUE ENCOUNT's members regain confidence[8].

Their second mini-album released in 2012 gained a lot of views on Youtube and made attendance at their live-shows higher[9]. In September 2014, BLUE ENCOUNT released their first major EP, signed with Kioon Music[10]. On October 2016, the band hosted their first solo concert at the Nippon Budokan, which sold out, with about 11,000 people attending[11].

In 2023, Tsujimura moved to the United States to perfect his music, without leaving the band however[12].
