The Unwelcome Great Detective (仲間はずれの名探偵 Nakama Hazure no Meitantei) is the third chapter of the manga of Detective Conan. It was written by Gosho Aoyama and and drawn by him and his assistants and first released in Shōnen Sunday #7/1994 on January 19th, 1994 and later on reprinted as part of Volume 1 on June 18th, 1994.

Plot
Kogoro and Ran Mouri arrived at the Tani residence in Yayoi with Conan Edogawa in tow, where it becomes clear that Mr. Tani's daughter, Akiko Tani, got kidnapped. Conan is quick to find several inconsistencies in what Mr. Asou, the Tani family's butler, told about what happened when Akiko got taken away. Asou admits that it was all a ruse when, suddenly, a seemingly real kidnapper calls Mr. Tani and demands his ransom money...

Trivia
- The traditional Samurai house of the Tani family strongly resembles the one the Mine family owns in Yaiba. It's possible Gosho Aoyama reused some reference models here.
- The fact about the guard dog not barking creating a contradiction in the culprit's explanation is taken directly from a Sherlock Holmes short story, The Adventure of Silver Blaze.
- The kidnapper demands 3,000,000 Yen at the end. This would currently be ~28,000 US-$ (May 2020).
