Case

Situation

Part 1

Conan, Haibara, ans the Detective Boys, along with Kogoro, Ran, and Sonoko, take a trip to Kumamoto, so they may participate in a tennis tournament. Haibara went on her first family type trip with them, because Professor Agasa was being very noisy working on a new gadget. Ran and Sonoko explore the city and finds a cell phone on the floor. When Sonoko picks up the phone, an unknown person sends her a message declaring their love for her and leaves a location and time so they may meet. Ran and Sonoko allocate to the meeting place. While Sonoko is in the bathroom, Ran hears two men talking about killing someone, they see her. She tries to run away, but another man knocks her out.

Kidnapping
	Location: Abandoned factory Hostage: Ran Mouri Culprits: Akira Doi and Hideki Mamiya During her attempt to return a lost cellphone to its owner, Ran was kidnapped.

Ran awakens in a locker room with her hands tied and using the phone, manages to contact Conan. She tells him her current situation and describes her surroundings. The three men return and destroys the phone Ran was using. The Detective Boys along with Kogoro and Sonoko report the kidnapping to the authorities while Conan wonders what the objective of the three men is.

Part 2

The police department receive a ransom demanding a large sum for Ran's life. The police send their men to search around town for Ran. Conan and Haibara soon deduce from Ran's description of her location. Once there, the Detective Boys are able to save Ran and apprehend the two kidnappers. However, it is revealed the third kidnapper is planning to murder the announcer for a Tennis match. Conan informs the police and they are able to persuade the murderer to surrender peacefully.

Resolution

The culprit leader is Masato Tachikawa and he tries to kill Kenzo Narimasu. Before becoming a professional tennis champion he used to work at Tachikawa's company where he was ill-treated as a worker and received sympathy only from Narimasu's secretary. Kenzo eventually left his secretary as a scapegoat for one of his corrupt political affairs and Hiroaki Saeki committed suicide in grief.

Attempted Murder
	Location: Kumamoto Athletic Park Hostage: Kenzo Narimasu Culprit: Masato Tachikawa Masato attempts to stab Kenzo during the tennis awards ceremony, but is stopped by Sonoko Kakei.

Masato along with two of his colleagues had staged this plan to kill Narimasu during the awards ceremony and by chance kidnapped Ran to further divert attention from their real plan after she accidentally overheard them.

He is finally stopped by their friend Sonoko who was against their entire operation.

Aftermatch

Three days after, Kenzo Narimasu is arrested for corruption and his secretary whom he framed finally had his name cleared.

• The English text on Haibara's laptop is from a news article on the space shuttle Discovery making a successful landing at Edwards Air Force Base, in California.
• Doi stepped on and broke Ran's cellphone, but Shinichi gives her a new one in The Trembling Police Headquarters: 12 Million Hostages.
