Part 1
Kogoro has won another contest and so he, Ran, and Conan go on vacation on the Kanmon Strait, which goes from Yamaguchi Prefecture and meets up in the middle with Fukuoka Prefecture. Four friends recognize him as that famous detective by the name of Eiko Nojima, Akane Isaka, Keisuke Otsubo, and Touru Akitaya. The friends had reunited after twelve years for anniversary of the death of their fifth friend, Hondo, as well as for the engagement of Akane and Otsubo.

After a minor fight with a rude man by the name of Seiji Hario, whom they have met before during their travel. Eiko excuses herself and leaves the group, at which point, Akane explains that Eiko was a girlfriend of Hondo and still remains single because she couldn't forget him. Akitaya also leaves as well which Ran senses something but chooses not to say.
The trio has dinner with them which is interrupted again by Hario, who is trying to buy Akitaya's businesses, but he refuse to sell. Hario quickly leaves afterward but not before insulting the late Hondo and knocking away Otsubo.
The next day, Kogoro, Ran, and Conan plan to visit the famous Mōri Motonari, claimed by Kogoro to be one of the Mouri family's ancestors. However, they're soon caught up in a murder at Kanmonkyo Bridge.

Kogoro immediately suspects the four friends, all of whom had motives. However, when he questions them, all of them have solid alibis during the murder time, forcing the police to release them. However, something tips Conan off when he notices that Eiko wears eyeglasses when driving.
Part 2
With some investigation by the police and Kogoro, Conan begins and investigation of his own. He discovers that the friends took advantage of Eiko's poor eyesight, so that one of them could commit the murder. It is then revealed that thirteen years ago that man caused their fifth friend to commit suicide.
After some talk with Ran, Eiko turns herself to the police and confesses that she murdered Hario because he refused to apologize to the late Hondo. Kogoro doesn't trust her and deduces that she is trying to cover for the true murderers.

- Due to the 2002 MLB Japan All-Star Series broadcast, Episode 300 was aired 2 weeks after Episode 299.
- Eiko Nojima wears glasses and drives a Dark Green 1994 Honda Crossroad Series I [LJ].
- Touru Akitaya's car is a Dark Blue Mitsubishi Libero Monte.
- In the second part of the case, the ending was changed to Overture.
- A lock opening sound effect is added just before the door opens in the door opening transition in this episode, and has remained since.
