Biography
Takahiro Kagami has worked at Studio Carpenter (スタジオカーペンター), Yumeta Company (ゆめ太カンパニー), and Studio Cockpit (スタジオコクピット) before, but he is now affiliated with Studio Sea Breeze (スタジオ潮風).
Kagami is rather famous among the anime industry owing to his magnificent illustrations drawn for the anime Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (遊☆戯☆王 デュエルモンスターズ). Apart from that, he also served as the monster design and character design for that series. In addition, he is also active as the executive director of Death Note (DEATH NOTE), which received numerous fan appreciation[1]. He is also the animator who emphasises the drawing of hand, and his forte is literally expressing and directing characters by hand. This is because he was astounded by Bruce Lee's hand movements in a movie he saw when he was a child, and ever since he implemented that while he was drawing characters[2].
Meanwhile, he manifests esteems towards the animator Shingo Araki (荒木 伸吾).
In the Detective Conan anime aspect, the Two Hour Special of 2002 Episode 263: The Osaka Double Mystery - The Naniwa Swordsman and Toyotomi's Castle, was outsourced to the Yumeta Company. In which Kagami, who delegated the company at that time, served as the "Auxiliary Animation Director" (作監補助 ) for that episode (the animation for the first case was directed by Maki Fujioka; the second case by Tomoyuki Matsumoto, for which Kagami did the last bit). Kagami was pretty well-known with regards to his own elaborate drawing techniques and obtained quite a lot of praise; this applies to all anime works he has been involved in.
He focuses more on the detail of the drawing, characters from his hands are usually delicate and realistic. His drawing style may share some similarities with Maki Fujioka - characters always have numerous shadows and highlights (in some abnormal regions). Furthermore, the highly proclaimed frame of Conan in that episode was drawn by him.

- ^ Note: Not the same as "Assistant Animation Director" (作画監督補 / 作画監督補佐 ); conversely, it was clearly credited on the ending credit of Episode 263 The Osaka Double Mystery - The Naniwa Swordsman and Toyotomi's Castle that the role was named "Auxiliary Animation Director" (作監補助 ). This was is the only time in Detective Conan that an animator was credited as this position.
