User talk:AvidConanContributor

From Detective Conan Wiki

A request for some collaborative discussion (elsewhere)

Hey Avico! Thanks for writing me. I have not had the time to take a look at the interview and the related info but it does seem pertinent enough to be included somewhere on the Wiki. The "somewhere" is what I'm still not sure of, but it could be included directly in Gosho's biography and the "Detective Conan" page in a "history" segment or something along those lines. I'm currently overseas for business so I won't be much active these months and I'll be reaching out to the other admins to get a Discord server created for DCW users. Don't hesitate to contact other admins on their talk page, as there really is no general talk section that everyone would be able to see, less they're following "recent changes". No definite answer as for the Discord server yet, but please feel free to add the info where you feel more suitable and we'll lend you a hand if we see something atrociously OOP. Cheerios! --Nakamura talk 04:07, 5 January 2025 (UTC)

Some trivial remarks

Long time no talk, Avico! I saw some of your open discussions you left last week. Since my exams were palpable so I had no choice but tentatively leave the wiki for a month or so (I'll be formally back next week). Matters are here and there, so I'll just start a general talk here:
1. Right Column Template: I saw your attempt at changing the countdown display by adding an "in" in front of the countdown template. I have also tried to attain that, but the Template:Latest news is seemingly obstructing me in doing so, and thus I implemented the dumbest method - that is simply adding "in" inside the countdown template.
2. Main Page Padding: Thanks for paying attention to the render of the main page and the defect concerning the right column; it was in fact a careless act whereupon I just lifted the other <div> tags without adjusting the padding (now from padding 10px to 0px) and the issue is resolved.
3. Aoyama Documentary: I was rather agitated after I saw you comment on this. There is no fear in deciding whether this page should be created. I read somewhere from this wiki (probably written by Maurice) that "as long as the content is Detective Conan-related, they are eligible to stay". There isn't any information or entires on other Conan wikis too, but some editors from the Chinese Conanpedia are planning on the creation of this article as well, despite imcomplete: [1]
4. Countdown Sandbox: This continues from the relative talk page; I replied to you with those words only because I thought I was "forcing" you to alter the countdown template, yet if you are spontaneous with regards to it, then all is well! It is rather challenging, as in my outlook, even if it was "dynamic" accurate to seconds, it might still require refreshing. Or else we have to amend other source codes, perhaps?
5. Discord Server: I also second the fact that the wiki should have its own Discord server. Since almost every other wiki has their own channels for "private" communications.
6. Did you know: I was trying to make this segment switch "automatically", or better saying, altering at regular intervals. ChatGPT provided me this scheme, which is somewhat doable. But there is still another problem: the templates only switch when editors edit their pages... I am still trying to find alternatives, as you see this is not optimal. (UPDATE - now it seems to be working perfectly fine! The modulus operation was removed and it shall change every hour looping from subpages of number 1 to 6)
May the day be the best day you have ever had - a precious member of the DCW! --BOBO (talk) 21:24, 17 January 2025 (UTC)

Automated right column

Thank thee for thy attention. Please check this out:

{{LE|971|The Target is the Metropolitan Police Traffic Department|part=1|January 18, 2025}}

Template:LE

It is surprisingly working! Now I believe the template is complete; it should work for all cases, even when the "part" parameter is non-numeric! --BOBO (talk) 19:43, 23 January 2025 (UTC)

To Be Or Not To Be? That's No Longer The Question

Avico, I must say something about the Template:Rightcolumn.

I will not interfere with it anymore due to multiple reasons - currently time is of the essence for me; I will not waste any more of my time conducting this non-sense dispute and Rum is indeed correct, time is money.

The reason I abandoned the first version of the Template:Latest news and added Template:LE and Template:NE was to avoid the excessive use of parameters:

New Version

Which one is more simplified? I wonder.

I do not mean to be overbearing, and would let other wiki editors' ideas to be put on the wiki. However in the premise of it being plausible. There is absolutely no need to intentionally find faults just to convince other people. First off, you were not being fair in "but I've found that these two episodes don't get written correctly", and by listsing examples of "the subheading of 'The Desperate Revival' is a hyphen instead of brackets" or "the subheading of 'Meiji Restoration Mystery Tour' is a colon instead of brackets" - the template is used for displaying useful information only and not for the accuracy of if it should be a hyphen or whatever. Furthermore, those episodes were broadcast many years ago ("The Desperate Revival" was at the start of the millennium) and so it will be extremely unlikely to have a similar case in years to come. Your reason given pertaining to "harder to debug" is also rather far-fetched to me, everything was indented nicely and fairly easy to spot the logic.

Now, regarding your latest message: I can accept the fact that "you replaced the template" but please do not give excuses such as "I found a glitch in your version". It was only faulty because you changed the Template:Latest news and not because the previous scheme was not working as it should be - even the first version is so lately.

Neither am I upset nor am I indignant; I just hope that we can communicate in a more truthful way rather than finding concoctive excuses like this - once again thank you for your engagement in this wiki and I will step aside from the Template:Rightcolumn from now on; good luck for you! --BOBO (talk) 22:20, 26 January 2025 (UTC)

Follow-up for "communications elsewhere"

Hey Avico :)
Thanks to many people's attention, your longing for communications on other platforms has just achieved. There is now a separate thread under the #detective-conan channel of the DCEN discord server. Please join it by clicking this link. I will mention you afterwards so that you can join the thread. --BOBO (talk) 10:32, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
