RE: New Here

Hello Hstar!

Thank you for your support and for contributing to the wiki! :) Regarding the gallery, it's an interesting idea and I made some changes to the 1st episode. You can use that as an example. Just a note however: it looks like you're taking frames from episode by only a few seconds interval and I believe that just too little! (there would be wayyyy too many screenshots by the end of the episode). I think it's best to capture some of the best screens throughout the episode for a maximum total of 30 images (the ideal average should be around 15 in my opinion). So, maybe take a nice relevant screen every 2-3 minutes? It's not necessary to take too many or it'd look like an actual frame by frame video but with images only... Last thing: I started added some labels to the images just to show you how it's done but, please, feel free to label each of the images as you see fit. Thanks! --Maurice 17:27, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

RE: Thank You!

Hey again. I was writing the other message when you sent me your new message lol. And sure, no problem. Ideas and feedback are always welcome here. As long as things are done nicely (and properly), it'll only make the wiki better for everyone. Thanks again and keep it up! :)

It's alright for Episode 1. Since it's the first episode you did that for, we'll simply do some kind of cleaning later on. But for the other episodes, it'd be best to have at the very most 30 images (but it's alright to have about 15-20 relevant images or less). --Maurice 17:47, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
Great job Hstar! I think it turned out pretty well and it does provide a whole new dimension when reading about the case: the images follow the plot and give a nice visual summary of the episode (which I'm sure fans will appreciate!). I do have some constructive criticism but that's only as a way to perfect the approach:
  • Instead of following the format EP1_x for the file names (which is already pretty good as it reflects a standard we're adopting for other images here), it would be even better if it was following the format: EP1_Gallery_x (i.e. this could prove to be useful for filtering and/or searching purposes).
  • Also, although it's not really a big deal (but it's something I'll eventually tackle at some point), could you ensure the extension is .jpg instead of .JPG (just a case-sensitive thing)? But if it would slow things down too much for you (as in grabbing the frame, saving, renaming, etc...), don't worry about it.
  • As for episode 1, it would probably be good to replace some of the frames within the 1 to 12 range to something else cause they do look a bit redundant at times (example: File:EP1_1.JPG and File:EP1_2.JPG).
Finally, I really appreciate the fact that you're willing to learn more about the best ways to showcase information in this wiki. It shows a real level of motivation that's always greatly needed and appreciated. Thank you for that! Keep it up and good luck with school! :) --Maurice 21:15, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
Sounds good. I've been thinking. I'd prefer to have a max number of images of 25 instead. I want to avoid having too many images (for many reasons that I won't be discussing here). And like I said, having only 15 images is already pretty good I believe: it would be a good average to aim for. Thanks again! --Maurice 18:51, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

RE: Episode 2's Gallery

Awesome! Thanks again! --Maurice 18:05, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

I only added captions for the first few images but I believe your captions are actually pretty good and I'm perfectly ok with you continuing to add them! I also made some templates but that's just for the standardization part of the presentation (so that it becomes super easy for anyone to add or modify galleries). If you want, you can just add new galleries with pictures for now (no need to tell me every time since it's easy to track what's been added/done) and later you can add the captions. Since you're taking the screenshots, it might be easier for yourself to add the captions (cause you're kind of watching the episode at the same time) but it's alright if you don't cause you don't have time or want to speed up the process. You (or someone else) can add the captions later. I don't think I'll spend time myself adding the captions as I normally spend more time on improving and standardizing the wiki and making sure things are in order. Thanks again and keep it up! --Maurice 15:59, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

RE: Video File=Media File?

From an old consensus established a while ago (and also part of the many reasons the Watch section is currently down), we'd prefer not promote videos of DC episodes (or movies, etc...) at this time. We wish to avoid becoming a "distributor" of actual content which could possibly become an issue for the site (you can find more information in the "News and updates" forum). I think the gallery of images is just within the limit of the acceptable. Videos would just be too much. I thank you for your suggestion though and hope this doesn't affect your awesome motivation to bring cool galleries of images to episodes as well as being a source of new ideas and innovation in general! :) --Maurice 17:51, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

RE: No Images

Sure, you can add images to the red links. Basically, the way it usually works is that people start adding People boxes (just the info without images) and other people come and upload the images whenever they can or feel like it. So, if you would like to upload images, you're more than welcome! However, please note that there's a preferred size for the images: 225x225. For more information, please see the DCW manual of style. As for your question regarding the case, I haven't seen it yet so I'm not quite sure who Hestia is.. Sorry. Try asking User:Chekhov MacGuffin. Thanks again for your hard work! --Maurice 15:06, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

Hestia

I attempted to upload a new photo for Hestia because the image you uploaded is actually not of her (it's an understandable mistake though), but I think I screwed it up or something. This is why I generally don't do anything with images. lol Do you think you could fix my fix please? I don't dare mess around with the picture again. Sorry, but thank you! --Jigsaw 01:01, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Nevermind. Seems to have worked out itself. --Jigsaw 02:33, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Podcast

Just in case you weren't sure if you found the right link, you can stream or download the podcast via the Studio section of DCW. :) http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/studio --Skyechan 19:07, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

RE:Episode Template

Ok, I might not be Maurice but yes you can use proper pictures instead of Title cards, good day. --conanshinichi 17:20, 20 May 2011 (UTC) hi]] 16:12, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

At the beginning, we used to take screenshots of title cards hence why you probably see them for lots of episodes. But after some discussion a while ago, we agreed that having relevant pictures in the infobox would be a nicer way to present the episode. We started doing that for some of them but it's a lot of work. So yes, feel free to add actual pictures instead of the title cards. It'll be a big help! Thank you! :) --Maurice 19:54, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Cast list template choice

I answered on Maurice's talk page about which template you use. I also deleted the duplicate cast list you made in the article because the previously existing template was the proper one. Hope you don't mind. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 22:00, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks Chekhov for answering. And it's as she said on my talk page. --Maurice 16:01, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

State of Emergency 252 Gallery

It's fine. But you don't necessarily have to go to 50. That would be the very maximum. You could instead just showcase important images instead of one every minute. I'm ok with either way though. Thanks for the hard work btw. It's greatly appreciated! --Maurice talk 13:44, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

RE: Identical Gallery

It looks like the name of the episode was renamed at some point and thus he tried to recreate the gallery by copying/pasting it to a new article with the correct name. He should have just used the "move" function instead. As you say, we're not supposed to have duplicates. I'll make a redirect from State of Emergency 252/Gallery to Emergency Situation 252/Gallery. --Maurice talk 17:58, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

RE: Another Duplicate

Done. It's been redirected. --Maurice talk 18:29, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

RE: Episode Captions

I think it's good to have captions as it better describes the image, which could potentially be hard to understand out of context. But it's also true that the current captions may be a bit too long. I'd say a one sentence (or 2 max) caption to briefly summarize the picture would work great. Thanks! --Maurice talk 17:58, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

RE: Debt Collector

You're right. This looks like a mistake. I think the user who added the suspects on The Man Obstructed by the Steel Frame simple called Man 1 and 2 as Debt Collector 1 and 2 cause that's what their descriptions say. It was just a coincidence that there were already images with those 2 file names (most likely uploaded for Mysterious Case Near the Pond which also have pictures for the other suspects). :o --Maurice talk 21:59, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Re: Episode Gallery 468 Complete

Thanks! That's great! :) As for the next gallery, maybe go in chronological order? As in the early episodes first? Thanks again! --Maurice talk 00:21, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Kaitou Kid and the four masterpieces gallery request

Could you get a good picture of Kid Takagi with the kid smile right as he is about to run off? I am doing a gallery of all the disguises Kid has used and I don't have a good Kid Takagi picture yet. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 19:31, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Nah, it's not urgent. The scene is very near the end. You will see it when you get there, so no rush. Certainly don't skip ahead to it. Chekhov MacGuffin talk 20:30, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
