Situation
Situation
An heterochromaic eyes woman in a disguise looking over a large computer database in a building. She flips through several names: Stout, Aquavit, Riesling, Rye, and Bourbon. It's a NOC list: everyone's cover is being blown. The Public Security Bureau busts in and tries to capture her. She flees and escape by stealing a car.
+
Mysterious assassinations have been happening around the world. The suspect is a spy accessing classified files. In Japan, a  woman  breaks into Tokyo police headquarters and accesses secret files on spies planted in the Black Organization by many intelligence agencies: the English MI6, the Canadian CSIS, the German BND, and the American CIA and FBI. Before this spy can steal the files, Rei Furuya arrives with a cadre of his secret police officers. The spy makes a getaway in a stolen car, but Rei soon catches up in his Mazda FD RX-7. The two jockey for position on the highway and are about to cause a huge wreck. Before they can crash, Shuichi Akai snipes the spy's car from the hood of his red and white striped Ford Mustang. The spy's car tumbles off the highway and explodes.

Rei Furuya chases after her in his RX-7 into the highway. Shuichi Akai sees them and follows. Amuro isn't having it and the two aggressively drive and drift with the woman hitting cars. She gets out her phone and type out a text about the NOC list. Those cars are turned into obstacles and nearly hit the fighting duo. She hits a large truck and it flips and flies over the rails: they're over water at this point. She jumps as well and the car lands from truck to a lower part of the highway. She curses in English as the path in front of her is a traffic jam. Akai backs off and Amuro, thinking he's won, chases after her.
+
The next day, Conan, Professor Agasa, Haibara, and the Detective Boys meet up at the newly renovated "Tohto Aquarium". Under the centerpiece of the park, a massive ferris wheel, they find an injured woman with heterochromia. The woman is suffering memory loss, she doesn't know her own name and even her cellphone is broken. Conan and his friends decide to stay together with her and help her to recover her lost memory. Unknown to Conan and his friends, Vermouth had been lurking nearby with a silenced pistol and had overheard everything. She pulls back and contacts Gin. The woman in question is in fact a new member of the Black Organization.

The woman isn't going to get herself captured so she drives into oncoming traffic, the other way. She's speeding, dodging, and back towards Amuro and Akai. Akai has different plans and has set up his rifle to shoot at the woman. She speeds the maximum the car can go and hides beneath the dashboard. Akai shoots at a front tire making it fly into the waters below them. Amuro, at this point, returns back to Akai and the two proclaim they're the ones to have her. Amuro leaves when he hears the police sirens and Akai gets a call.

The woman emerges onto land and as she sees the fireworks and bright lights of the Touto Aquarium's Ferris Wheel, she blanks out into a scream.

The next day, Conan and the Detective Boys are heading to Touto Aquarium's newly constructed theme park. Conan's watching the news about the crash from last night and everyone else is excited for the Aquarium's new ferris wheel. The news switches stories to the Touto Aquarium and everyone, except Genta and Professor Agasa, is watching. The reporter explains the renewal of the Aquarium and it's expansion.

They finally get there and the Detective Boys want to ride the ferris wheel. Professor Agasa, remarks that he'll buy the tickets for both the ferris wheels if they answer the quiz: "What color changes when it’s heavily mixed?" 1. Red 2. Blue 3. Brown 4. Black. Answer: Brown. It's a Japanese pun on the colors. Majirikkenashi means to make the color concentrated or darker. So red (aka) would turn deep red (makka), blue (ao) would turn deep blue (massao), black (kuro) would turn pitch black (makkuro), and brown (chairo) would turn into maccha, not dark brown but instead matcha, the color of green tea. Conan and Haibara remarks that he's childish for bringing out this quiz. The three Detective Boys make a dash to the ticket counter for the ferris wheel with Professor Agasa trying to chase them. Conan notices a bruised and battered woman sitting on the bench, spacing out.

Conan remarks about her heterochromatic eyes and Haibara comes over. The woman has amnesia. They ask her all sorts of questions but she doesn't remember. Next to her is a nearly destroyed smart phone and broken glass from a windshield of a car. Conan remarks that this is from an older car model: newer cars have a film to keep a broken windshield from splattering glass fragments all over the place. Conan takes the broken smart phone and the Detective Boys show up with tickets. Ayumi remarks about the womn's pretty eye colors and the two explain to the group about her. Conan takes pictures of the woman but she gets up to leave as police was mentioned in the group. Conan remarks that they won't contact the police and only took a picture so they can find people connected to her.

Of course, Conan sends it to Ran and asks for Kogoro to find out about her. At the detective agency, Ran shows the picture of the woman to her dad, who is hung over. He didn't catch everything Ran said as he was more than happy to meet the beautiful woman, and runs off to Touto Aquarium. Ran also sends the photo to Detective Takagi to investigate, causing Inspector Megure, Detective Chiba, and Detective Sato to follow thinking she's the reason for the crash last night.

After receiving no contact after the text sent from last night, Vermouth tries to trace back a certain someone's movements. She finds a jacket which belonged to the woman and sees Touto Aquarium across the way. She ducks into one of the Aquarium's restaurants and sets up a face recognition program to find the woman. As soon as she's found, Vermouth reports to Gin that she found the woman. Gin tells her to quickly get her and get back to base.

Back to Conan, the Detective Boys decides to help the woman recover her memories. Ayumi, Mitsuhiko, and Genta takes the woman to a darts game and she throws a perfect score. She wins three dolphin keychains which the kids take. Conan yells at them when they find the group and Professor Agasa gets their attention that the line to the ferris wheel isn't busy. The kids pull the woman towards the ferris wheel. Conan asks the staff of the darts game if they ever seen her before but with no luck. They give Conan a pure white dolphin to give to the woman, saying that it's actually an incomplete dolphin because it has no color. Haibara starts to question if she's in the Black Organization. Conan realizes this as he looks at the perfect triple bulls eye the yoman threw. They make their way to the ferris wheel.

The woman lines up with the Detective Boys and Professor Agasa: Conan and Haibara still haven't reached anywhere near yet. Vermouth walks up and leaning against the rail, tells the woman to follow her. The woman ignores it and follows Professor Agasa, saying she thought someone was calling her out. Vermouth realizes something is wrong and reports it to Gin. She leaves for now. Conan and Haibara show up and they find the group already far into the line around the third floor. Genta yells for them but loses balance and grabs the edge of the open floor, about to fall. The woman tries to save him and as Genta falls from losing his grip, she does an acrobatic performance saving Genta. In the end, Professor Agasa was the one who receives the most damage as Genta kicked him as he was falling off the edge. After seeing that performance, Haibara starts freaking out as her Black Organization senses are going wild. She drags Conan for a private chat and says that she might be Rum. Conan isn't completely certain yet but it's highly likely she is.

Professor Agasa, who was supposed to watch the group, is playing with the birds by feeding them popcorn and them getting attached to him like a fairy tale princess. Ayumi, Mitsuhiko, and Genta plot to get into the ferris wheel with the woman and leave when everyone else is busy. Once they get on and get near the top, the woman is in pain as she starts to remember. She mumbles NOC, Stout, Aquavit, and Riesling. Ayumi contacts Conan and in turn Conan contacts the police and ambulance. Conan, Detective Sato, Inspector Megure, and Detective Takagi listen to the doctor about her amnesia and her color contact was found in her eye. Vermouth listens outside the door as they talk about transferring her to the police hospital.

Meanwhile in London, Stout gets on a open top sightseeing bus as instructed by the Black Organization. He reports it then is sniped by Korn.

Gin announces that they're going back to Japan and to finish killing off the remaining people from the NOC list: Kir and Bourbon.

Back in Japan, James Black received news that the three members are dead. Conan is in the car along with James, Jodie Starling, and Andre Camel. James explains that if the woman regains her memories and spills about the NOC list, the world will go into a panic. Professor Agasa received the broken smart phone from Conan earlier and trying to recover any data.

<spoiler>While Professor Agasa is recovering the data and Conan with the FBI, the Detective Boys sneak off to the police hospital to try and visit the woman. They've called Detective Takagi to let them see the woman and in turn, they're in the recreation room. A quick change over to Amuro shows him outside the police hospital and Vermouth finds him. She tells him that he needs to come with her. The kids play Othello with the woman as pairs: Mitsuhiko and Ayumi vs Genta and the woman. Genta gives her the incomplete white dolphin keychain that he received from Conan earlier. The kids talk about what color she should color it but Genta says it should be white because of her hair color and how it just matches her.

The Public Security Bureau, lead by Yuya Kazami, Amuro's junior direct subordinate, shows up to the hospital to take the woman. Inspector Megure hands her over and in turn, the rest of the police group gets pissed. The police group, minus Inspector Megure, takes the woman back to her room and the kids have to say goodbye. They make a promise to her that all of them will ride the ferris wheel again someday.

Back to Conan, he's back in Professor Agasa's house to check up on the recovery. After receiving a quick check that he might be able to get the most recent data, Conan tries to leave the room. Haibara hid behind the door and catches his wrist, stopping him from going. Conan remarks that this is his fate. Haibara lets go and Conan leaves.

Somewhere in a warehouse, Bourbon and Kir are handcuffed to a steel beam. Gin, Vodka, and Vermouth are there with Gin telling them about their names appearing in a NOC list. They deny outright that they're not but Gin isn't having it. In this mess, Kir has a clip in her hand and tries to unbend and lock pick the cuffs. Gin shoots Kir in her left arm, causing her to drop the pin unnoticed. Gin has Vodka countdown from 60 seconds before he shoots them dead. Kir and Bourbon tries to convince him with no luck. Just before the countdown ends, a hanging light is shot and dropped onto the stand light. Completely in darkness, Bourbon finds the bent pin and uses the chance to escape. The front door opens with a bang and thinking it's Bourbon that escaped, as the scene shows the light flowing to show only Kir cuffed to the beam, Vodka chases after him. Gin's had enough and just as he's about to shoot Kir, Vermouth stops him saying that Rum orders them to stop. Gin's expression upon hearing Rum's name is almost like he’s afraid of Rum.

Vermouth finally reveals the woman's code name: Curaçao. The text who she was typing in the beginning is finally sent to Rum and Rum quickly sends a response to Vermouth to stop Gin from killing them. Bourbon and Kir are not on the NOC list. Vodka returns and says he couldn't catch Bourbon. Gin, still not trusting them that the two aren't spies, drops it for now and makes a move to retrieve Curaçao back.</spoiler>

<spoiler>During that time, Professor Agasa had completed the data recovery and most likely sent the text. Conan received the data and learned about Curaçao's name. He takes out the colored strips and notes that the colors are the same as the different types of Curaçao (flavors). He also realizes he's seen the colors before and how Curaçao reacted in the ferris wheel. The key point is the flashing colors of light when you get to the top. It's nearing nightfall so Conan makes his way back to the Touto Aquarium.

Back to the kids, they want to ride the ferris wheel again and Mitsuhiko remembers they have another powerful ally that could get them in without any problems. Touto Aquarium is financed by the Suzuki Financial Group so they contact Sonoko and ask her to allow them to ride the ferris wheel. Ran and Kogoro takes the kids to the Aquarium. Kogoro stays in the car while Ran and the kids meet up with Sonoko. Behind them, the Public Security Bureau shows up with Curaçao and wants to ride the ferris wheel in hopes that she'll recover her memory like last time. They make their way to the ticket booth and order tickets only to be rejected as the tickets are sold out for the day. They head into the office and explain the situation. The police follows them the entire way, sneaking around to figure out what the Bureau is doing. Outside, Sonoko has a staff member take the kids to ride the ferris wheel.

Ran and Sonoko both pass by the ticket booth and Ran remarks that she seen Curaçao before but doesn't remember where. Sonoko tells her to call Shinichi then. At the same time, Conan has made his way back to the Aquarium and is in very close proximity to the two. Ran calls and Shinichi answers and rushes the call as he needs to get to the ferris wheel. Ran picks up on the same Touto Aquarium announcements that are playing the same time as where she was. Sonoko, as usual, remarks that Shinichi might be cheating on her if he's here and probably on a date. She takes Ran to find Shinichi and catch him in the act.

Haibara follows Conan using the glasses and shows up at the Aquarium. The ferris wheel has two parts, or rings, so it looks like two ferris wheels stuck together. The gondolas are the size of a small room so there's room for passengers to move about or put a lot of people in one gondola.

Back to the kids, the staff member had guided them to the ferris wheel and explains to the guiding staff member that they have a special request from the Suzuki family to let them on. He, who had heard that another group was to get on was coming soon, mistakes it for them and lets them on. Soon after the kids was let on, Kazami and Curaçao comes up saying they're to get on. Conan had noticed Curaçao and made his way through the crowd exclaiming that he's trying to get to his friends. Kazami and Curaçao gets on before Conan can make it to the front of the line. Conan reaches to the front, sees the two already ascending and goes back down to the maintenance stairs around the halfway point.

Amuro has disguised himself as a worker and has made his way to the very top of the ferris wheel. Akai had followed him up there with his rifle in the bag. The two start saying that Curaçao is theirs and start a fight. Conan, unaware that Akai and Amuro are fighting close by, finds the central system to the bombs attached around the ferris wheel inside a fire hose box. They're still fighting when Conan notices Akai when he's near the fence on the floor above him. Conan calls out to Akai and asks to help him with the bomb, effectively ending the fight and the two help each other. Conan explains about the whole bomb situation and Amuro says that he'll diffuse the system. He learned it from Jinpei Matsuda and starts work. Akai works on removing the bombs that are stuck on the ferris wheel. Amuro also mentions about the escape. Akai saved Amuro from being shot by Gin by shooting the lights and then kicking open the door. Akai had bolted with Vodka chasing him instead and Amuro was hiding behind crates until everyone left.

Curaçao stopped the ferris wheel, saving everyone including the Detective Boys, but then she died when the wheel crushed the forklift.</spoiler>

Vermouth arrived to Touto Aquarium and has returned back to the restaurant from the first time to find Curaçao again. Upon seeing her nearing the top, she thinks to herself that Curaçao's memories will be restored once she gets to the top or she's been faking it the entire time. She lets Gin know that Curaçao is on the ferris wheel. Chianti and Korn are piloting an Osprey and head to the Aquarium with Gin and Vodka in the back using infrared equipment to find the gondola that Curaçao is on.

Curaçao is handcuffed to a part of the gondola through the entire ride with Kazami waiting for results. As the gondola reaches the top, Curaçao is in pain as she looks at the colored lights, triggering her memories to flow. Vermouth notices and a flashback happens to when Vermouth is in a large, white room with Curaçao, who had a failed a mission. Curaçao is restrained on a metal table and Vermouth is about to inject a liquid to kill her. Rum stops her using his voice. Rum says she's still useful for the Organization and ends the flashback. Curaçao remembers everything now and beats Kazami into unconsciousness. She uncuffs herself and calls Vermouth using Kazami's cell. Vermouth tells her to stay where she is as Gin is coming to get her. Vermouth calls Gin and tells him her location. Curaçao thinks to herself that if she stays here, she'll return back to the Organization and that's something she doesn't want. So she makes an escape. Conan notices her escaping by jumping around. Conan makes his way to the gondola she was in and sees Kazami unconscious. He tries to wake him up.

Haibara notices the kids riding the ferris wheel and wonders how they managed to get there. She runs to the ferris wheel and works her way up. Meanwhile, Akai has most of the bombs off of the ferris wheel and Amuro is working hard on diffusing the system. The osprey has made it to the Aquarium and lowers a crane to grab the gondola Curaçao was in. Everyone goes into a panic as the ferris wheel gets damaged and Conan goes unconscious for a few minutes from the impact. Vodka yells out that the gondola only has a guy and a kid in it and Gin tries to flip the remote detonator to the bomb system, that is diffused by Amuro. Gin flips and orders Chianti and Korn to shoot at the ferris wheel. Curaçao is now a traitor to the Organization.

Conan regains consciousness and gets back to where Akai and Amuro were as the shots are fired. Haibara makes her way up to save the kids but falls and is saved by Curaçao. She remarks about Curaçao being in the Black Organization and Curaçao figures out she's Sherry. Instead of killing her, she lets Sherry go and tells her to escape. Haibara exclaims she can't because the kids are still on the ferris wheel and they need to be rescued. Curaçao helps her get to where the kids' gondola is and tells her that she should save the kids from here on out. Curaçao leaves and makes herself bait as Vodka follows her through the infrared equipment. She gets hit and falls.

Conan finds Akai with his rifle trying to shoot at the weak spot of the Osprey but with no luck. His main scope is damaged from the shots earlier and his sub scope isn't strong enough. Amuro makes his way towards the two with his rifle bag. They need a bright light to see the Osprey. Somewhere in this commotion, the entire aquarium lost all power. With Chianti and Korn shooting and the blackout, they can't do anything. Conan decides to kick his soccer ball at the Osprey and Akai manages to see the weak spot. He shoots and the Osprey malfunctions. Chianti yells out they need to get out but Gin orders Korn out of his seat and takes over. He mindlessly shoots at the ferris wheel, more like having fun with it as he's smirking, and the ferris wheel snaps the first ring from the back half.

Conan is now racing to stop the wheel from spinning out of control and uses his suspenders to try and keep it in place with the stable half. The Detective Boys are still in the gondola as it goes out of control. Conan jumps from the moving half to the stable half with Amuro and Akai throwing and catching him. The suspenders still don't stabilize the wheel as it moves closer to the Aquarium building that Ran and Sonoko are at. The Osprey has escaped. A large excavator is heading to the wheel as fast as it can. It's driven by Curaçao who has a steel pole gone through her abdomen and holds her incomplete dolphin in her hands. She uses the crane part to grab hold of the wheel and drive back to pull it back up. It holds but the wheel starts collapsing and crushes Curaçao. The wheel is nearly touching the aquarium building but is safe.

After the whole ordeal, the Public Security Bureau and EMS is carrying a sheet covered body into the ambulance. Conan and Haibara make it to the scene. Kazami is given a look at the body who turns out to be Curaçao. Something falls out of the stretcher and Conan picks it up. It's a smashed black dolphin. Conan and Haibara feel bad when they see the item. Kazami asks for it and Conan gives it up.

Much later, the Detective Boys, Professor Agasa, Ran, Conan, and Haibara are at Professor Agasa's. The television is on and the news show the events from the aquarium. The Detective Boys have their dolphin keychains out and wonder if the woman is their friend. Ran remarks that she is sure the woman is their friend with the incomplete dolphin in her hands.</spoiler>

* This is the first movie to feature CIA agent Hidemi Hondou, as well as Public Security Bureau agent Rei Furuya.
+
* The film grossed over 6.33 billion Yen, breaking the previous record held by Sunflowers of Inferno and was the highest grossing film of the franchise until The Crimson Love Letter broke its record.
* The helicopter seen at the movie's climax is a Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey. This American military aircraft is unique for having tiltrotors: rotors which move between a vertical position like a helicopter and a horizontal position like a turboprop plane. The V-22 can take off vertically and hover, but also cruise long range at high speed. At the time this film was released, no V-22 Ospreys have been delivered to non-US countries, although Japan's parliament approved a defense budget in January 2015 with funding for five V-22s which will be delivered by 2018. Between 2012 and 2014, between 6 and 24 of the Marine Variant MV-22 Ospreys were deployed at American Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in Okinawa. Incidentally the V-22 has acquired notoriety for crashing, which prompted protests by Okinawans who doubted its airworthiness.
+
* This movie is a commemorative work for the 20th anniversary of Detective Conan anime.
:There are two routes the Black Organization might have used to obtain a V-22. One is to steal one from an American military base in Japan. The other is to have secretly infiltrated a military base in the United States where damaged, defective, or decommissioned V-22s are stored, disassembled one (or parts of several), and removed it while creating a false paper trail that it had been decommissioned and cannibalized for parts.

* The American V/STOL seen at the movie's climax is a Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey, but at the time this film was released, no ones have been delivered to non-US countries, although Japan's parliament approved a defense budget in January 2015 with funding for five V-22s which will be delivered by 2018. It would have thus been practically impossible for the Black Organization to obtain any of them.
* Curaçao is a constituent country of the Netherlands, near the coast of Venezuela. It is also the namesake for alcoholic beverages made of Laraha Citrus, a kind of orange. Curaçao is one of few codenamed members of the Organization who do not follow the pattern of codenaming female agent after wine-based alcoholic beverages.

Situation

    • The American V/STOL seen at the movie's climax is a Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey, but at the time this film was released, no ones have been delivered to non-US countries, although Japan's parliament approved a defense budget in January 2015 with funding for five V-22s which will be delivered by 2018. It would have thus been practically impossible for the Black Organization to obtain any of them.

    • This film is dedicated to Masahito Yoshioka, the real-life chief producer of Detective Conan between 1996 and 2011 from Tokyo Movie Shinsa, who died on January 14, 2016. A title card reads "In memory of Masahito Yoshioka" appears during the end credits of the film.
    • The three cars in the ending theme are a white Mazda RX-7, a red Ford Shelby GT500 SVT and a 1998 dark blue Toyota Mark II [X100].
