<spoiler>The killer is '''Ryuichi Seto'''. Earlier on, Masuko had freaked out after breaking what looked like an original Kikuemon pottery piece and it was theorized at first she 'killed herself' out of guilt for breaking something worth millions of yen. When Masuko was drunk and completely passed out, Ryuichi took the sleeping woman to the storage room instead of her bedroom, placing her inside a drawer and a hanging loose rope around her neck. After this he put Masuko's cellphone next to her, since she used it as an alarm clock; hours later, the still drunk and thus completely unaware Masuko woke up with the cellphone alarm, then tried to get out of bed, she ended up hanging herself instead. The blood came from a wound caused by a metal nail sticking out of the drawer. When Masuko "hung 'self", her leg hit the nail and got ripped open. | <spoiler>The killer is '''Ryuichi Seto'''. − | The motive was that Masuko was copying Kikuemon's prized pieces and selling them for huge prices behind her father-in-law's back. When she broke one of the copies, she was terrified because she believed she'd be found out. True to this belief, Ryouchi noticed the broken piece was a fake and later confronted her on it. He attempted to dissuade Masuko from her illegal gains, but when she harshly rebuffed him, Ryuichi was enraged both due to this and to his own pride and decided to kill her. </spoiler> | + | The motive was that Masuko was copying Kikuemon's prized pieces and selling them for huge prices behind her father-in-law's back. Trivia
- During the party, Kogoro is asked to tell his deductions on some of the cases he solved. He was asked to tell how he solved Tsukikage Island case and Kiritengu case which Conan solved while as he was asleep, so he avoids telling those stories. He insists on telling the reunion case which he partially solved and was not put asleep. But he had already told them that story. He also had already told them about museum case and magician case which he also partially solved and was not put asleep.
- Conan notes that these are the only three cases that were solved while he was awake.
- However, this is not true if TV original episodes are taken into consideration. In The Mystery Weapon Murder Case, the case was also partially solved by Kogoro and he was not put asleep, so he could have told that story during the party.
- In the manga Japanese version, the hiragana ideograms on Kaoru's surname meaning "Ooya" and not "Otani".
- The name of Kikuemon is passed down from one treasure national pottery master onto his successor, and the trend continues. The current Kikuemon is the fifth or 6th one, and he had 3 apprentices, which one is expected to inherit the name after he passes on or retires. Kikuemon seems to be inspired from the world famous potter Raku Kichizaemon, famous for the Raku ware, a type of ceramics used in tea. Raku Kichizaemon is also a hereditary title passed down from generation to generation.
